Gameweek 1-8 Set Piece / Crossing Stats

Share post on:

We are on the verge of finishing the first quater of FPL matches for the season and we now know a lot more specific data on our FPL prospects. And while have buried our heads in the xG of our players, assists and set pieces often go untalked about.

Corners

James Maddison - 45 Taken / 8 Succesful
Milivojevic - 34 / 14
Ward-Prowse - 34 / 10
Buendia - 33 / 8
Digne - 33 / 7
De Bruyne - 32 / 10
Mount - 31 / 9
Young - 30 / 14
Alexander-Arnold - 29 / 8

Observations:

Leicester are really failing to convert from the sheer amount of set pieces they are earning. Considering that Maddison has missed games due to injury, it is incredible that he is so far ahead in the stats. With 45 corners, he has taken a large proportion but not all of Leicester's corners with Tielemans and Chilwell also providing some. But it shows the opportunities are there for Maddison.

Milivojevic's high success rate is a potential clue to Gary Cahill (4.5) being an excellent FPL acquisition after the next International break.

Crosses

Alexander-Arnold - 78 taken / 21.8% cross completion
Digne - 66 / 19.7%
Maddison - 55 / 23.6%
De Bruyne - 54 / 29.6%
Milivojevic - 50 / 36%
Young - 49 / 40.8%
McNeil - 49 / 30.6%
Buendia - 48 / 18.8%

Observations:

Trent Alexander-Arnold
is a phenomenom. Digne is still up there, despite Everton's terrible run. KdB and Milivojevic have fantastic accuracy and everyone should ignore Ashley Young.

Attempts From Set Plays

Mina - 9 / Headers etc
Maguire - 8 / Headers etc
Ake - 8 / Headers etc
Otamendi - 8 / Headers etc
Digne - 7 / Free Kicks
Richarlison - 7 / Headers etc
Dawson - 7 / Headers etc
Eriksen - 6 / Free Kicks etc
Mane - 6 / Headers etc
Cahill - 6 / Headers etc

Observations:

Very few actual set piece takers here, only Ruben Neves (6 also) joins Eriksen and Digne. Suprisingly our Free Kick heroes in James Ward-Prowse (4) and James Maddison (2) have only got 6 between them!

Mane popping up in there is also a good little suprise for managers holding him.

xA Expected Assists

De Bruyne - 2.96
Alexander-Arnold - 2.68
Mahrez - 2.58
Buendia - 1.86
Sigurdsson - 1.76
Gross - 1.76
Grealish - 1.74
Pukki - 1.61
Sterling - 1.59

Observations:

Kevin de Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold unsuprisingly are right up there with mind blowing statistics. Both are borderline essential in teams from here on out. Sigurdsson is doing suprisingly well in his underlying stats, alongside Mina and Digne in an abject Everton side. Norwich pair Pukki and Buendia are doing really well with the latter appearing in a lot of top stats on this page.
