Fantasy Ligue 1 Five Tips For Gameweek 21

Share post on:
Welcome back to another Fantasy Ligue 1 article. Ahead of the weekend's action, @NaturalFootyFan highlights his top 5 tips in preparation for Gameweek 21. Paris Saint-Germain have now widened their gap at the top of the table to 20 points, which is honestly a ridiculous margin to lead by at this stage in the season. With the title safely in their grasp, their principal aim has now been shifted towards completing the full season unbeaten. Elsewhere, promoted Angers are doing their best impression of Leicester City, by sneaking back into second place, while Lyon marked the opening of their new stadium, with their first Ligue 1 victory since the start of November. Here are our tips for Gameweek 21 - all player prices are from our partners at Mondogoal, who provide European Fantasy Football contests on a daily basis.

Tip 1 - Nantes to secure a clean sheet on the road.

Nantes have mastered the knack of shutting out teams for a clean sheet. It definitely isn't pretty, however, you can't deny that ‘The Canaries' are organized and display impressive discipline. Take their head-to-head record with Gameweek 21 opposition Guingamp for example; Nantes have been victors with a 1-0 score line in each of their last 4 meetings between the clubs. Guingamp have not found the net for 387 minutes against Nantes in Ligue 1 since a goal from Younousse Sankharé on 30 November 2013! Everything points towards a low-scoring affair, nevertheless, with Nantes boasting the better form in the League (unbeaten in their last 6), in contrast to Guingamp (lost 5 of their last 6), we recommend stocking up on their backline. Remy Riou (7.9m) is a reliable goalkeeper on Mondogoal, with 8 clean sheets this season, while the fullback duo of Youssouf Sabaly (7.8m) and Ermir Lenjani (5.9m) offer decent attacking potential.

Tip 2 Rennes to extend Troyes winless run.

Troyes are the first team in Ligue 1 history yet to taste victory after 20 matches played (D8 L12). The visitors are also without a win in their last 11 matches on home soil. Pulling all of these factors together, combined with the pressure that comes with sitting rock bottom of the table and things could get ugly for Troyes. They currently trail 19th placed Guingamp by 12 points - so unless they accomplish, what would have to be one of the most incredible turnarounds in football history, they appear destined for relegation. Rennes are unbeaten in their last 9 Ligue 1 matches and have scored in each of their last 10 away games. For Mondogoal Giovanni Sio (5.6m) offers superb value; four of his five goals this season have come on his travels and he is expected to lead the line for ‘The Red and Blacks'. However, the player who has stolen the spotlight for Rennes in recent weeks is 18-year-old Ousmane Dembele (7.3m). Slightly more expensive than his counterpart, but with 2 goals and an assist in his last 2 matches, the youngster is gold dust in daily fantasy football contests.

Tip 3 Boufal is Back!

Lille's Sofiane Boufal is beginning to work into some form at the moment, with a goal and assist in his last 2 appearances. Lille travel to Bordeaux in an encounter that could swing either way dependant on the form of Wahbi Kharzi (8.7m), and our pick, Sofiane Boufal (10.8m). Both players pull the strings for their side and offer a similar output, however, stats wise the former comes out on top. With Boufal attempting an average of 4.2 dribbles per game, which is more than any other player in Ligue 1 this season, combined with the fact he's ranked third for fouls won per game the Moroccan suits Mondogoal's scoring system to a T. We're expecting a high scoring contest, between two sides who have struggled for goals in the past. A single point separates the clubs, so there's everything to play for.

Tip 4 Back Paris Saint-Germain on all fronts.

The reigning champions have scored the most goals (50) and conceded the least (9), in Ligue 1 this season and are 39 goals above their nearest rivals in the goal difference department. Their domination of the league is beginning to get out of hand, having now gone unbeaten in 29 Ligue 1 fixtures, winning 26 of these. With this authority, you cannot go wrong with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic (19m) and Angel Di Maria (16.6m), both of whom were given a rest from the starting XI on Wednesday. Yes, they are premium options on Mondogoal, however with the pairs joint contribution of 21 goals and 15 assists this season, fading them shouldn't even cross your mind. Well, that's the two staple picks out of the way, now things get slightly more interesting. Our advice is to select the maximum of 4 PSG players', so to add to their forward line we recommend attacking fullbacks Maxwell (12.1m) and Serge Aurier (11.3m). PSG lead our charts for Clean Sheet and Goal Scoring potential.

Tip 5 Both teams to score as Ajaccio host Reims.

There has only been one clean sheet in each of Reims and Ajaccio's last 8 fixtures respectively. During these 16 fixtures, that means that 87.5% of them have ended with both teams scoring. Ajaccio have scored in each of their last 10 Ligue 1 games, their best ever run in Ligue 1 and the best current run in the competition, while Reims have found the net in 8 of their last 9 Ligue 1 fixtures. With that in mind, we've noted down a player from each side to keep an eye on. First up is Ajaccio's Mohamed Larbi (7.6m). The Tunisian playmaker scored a brace in his last home match and is the designated free kick and corner taker. This results in an increased chance of assists and shots on target a vital tool for points scoring on Mondogoal. For the away side your best bet for a goal is Nicolas De Preville (6.9m), however with doubts surrounding his fitness, ex-Liverpool forward David N'Gog (4.6m) may lead the line. Both players shoot-on-sight and sniff around the 6-yard box, waiting to feed off some scraps.
