Welcome back to another Fantasy La Liga five tips article for Gameweek 20. This week,
Callum Read highlights his top five tips ahead of Gameweek 20 in La Liga.
The biggest news coming out of Spanish football this week concerns rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Both clubs have been put under a transfer ban for the next two transfer windows, but they can still sign players in the remainder of the January transfer window. This could lead to a couple of big money moves within the next two weeks as Diego Simeone and Zinedine Zidane look to build their sides to last the next 18 months. Finally a massive congratulations to Lionel Messi who won his 5th Ballon D'or this past Monday. It was also goodbye to Pepe Mel who was sacked by Real Betis for the second time.

Tip 1 � Mix the Villarreal defence AND attack
Villarreal are currently in fine form, they've won their last six games in La Liga and are playing some really entertaining football. This weekend they welcome Real Betis to the Estadio El Madrigal, Pepe Mel departed the club after just one win in his last 10 games. Ruben Castro can't seem to find the back of the net and if he isn't playing well no one else does. In their last five games Real Betis have scored a total of 0 goals conceding 10. Villarreal on the other hand have only conceded one and scored eight. If you're going to back a Villarreal forward than it has to be
Cedric Bakambu (MO: 8.2m, FB:8.0m); the striker has eight goals this season and is a real threat. In defence the likes of
Mario Gaspar(MO:9.6m, FB:6.0m), Mateo Musacchio (MO:8.3m, FB:5.5m) and
Alphonse Areola (MO:9.3m, FB:6.0m) are all solid picks.
Tip 2 � Finally a win for Gary Neville.
It's now eight league games without a win for Gary Neville's Valencia but the performances have been there. This weekend they face Rayo Vallecano and will be firm favourites to take all thee points. Paco's side have the second worst away form in the league (W1 D1 L7) conceding an extraordinary 27 goals in the process. Vallecano love to get forwards an attack so there should be a lot of space for
Paco Alcacer (MO: 8.4m FB:) and
Rodrigo de Paul (MO:5.7m, FB:) to exploit. 24-year-old
Rodrigo (MO:3.5m, FB:) has been impressive recently and may get the call to complete the trident.
Tip 3 � It has to be Messi.
It's now five Ballon D'or's for
Lionel Messi (MO:21.7m, FB:), he really is a joy to watch and is showing no signs of easing up. Last weekend the little magician scored a hat trick in the win over Granda including an unbelievable free kick. It may seem an obvious tip but it's one that can often be overlooked; Messi is a must have this weekend when Barcelona host Athletic Club and you'd be crazy to avoid him. Messi himself has been involved in 15 goals in his last 10 appearances against Athletic Club in La Liga scoring nine goals and assisting six.
Tip 4 � Bale and Benzema to continue their form.
Whilst Cristiano Ronaldo is moaning over his goal ratio both
Karim Benzema (MO:15.8, FB:) and
Gareth Bale (MO:14.7m, FB:) are increasing their own weak by weak. The Frenchman currently sits on 14 goals for the season with Bale on 12. For two players who are seen as secondary to Ronaldo these numbers are very impressive. The Welshman helped himself to a hat trick in Zizou's first game and he will be hoping to further that record against a poor Sporting Gijon side who have lost their last six away matches in La Liga. It may seem crazy to fade Ronaldo but the aforementioned players are well and truly in form.
Tip 5 � Eibar to keep a clean sheet
We said last week how good Eibar are defensively at home and they let us down conceding against Espanyol. This weekend they host Granada a side who've only scored five goals in their last five games. The Ipurua Municipal Stadium really is a tough place to go and Granada are going to find it incredibly hard to break down Eibar's defence. They are without doubt the surprise package this season and currently sit in sixth place just one point behind fifth place Celta Vigo. Granada on the other hand are in 17th position two points above the relegation zone. The likes of
Ivan Ramis (MO:N/A, FB:5.0m) and
Asiero Riesgo (MO:N/A, FB:4.5m) make for solid clean sheet potential.
