GW37+ Stats - Number Crunching Time

Share post on:

Premier League GW37+ Begins Saturday 18th July 2020

If this were the British Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton was at the cockpit of his Mercedes, we would approaching the penultimate lap of what has been a gruelling race. However, it's not Silverstone, which acts as the theatre of war, instead it is a collection of Premier League grounds all over England.

Not only have we reached the final few miles, but the finishing line is in sight and although we're not quite there yet, the magical gameweek 38 is only a week or so away a gameweek that will define how successful your FPL campaigns have been.

Will it be end of season glory or will it be despair? Those answers we will find out very soon, but before we do, it is time to crunch all the numbers once again and that means, it is time for another round of….

Did You Know?

Norwich have lost each of their last eight Premier League matches and you get the feeling it is now men versus boys as far as the Canaries are concerned. Boys, who by and large are failing to find the opposition's net.

Daniel Farke's men have managed to score just once in their last six league outings, and they average just 0.72 league goals per game this season. A return that can only be described as rather bleak.

Tottenham have seen over 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 11 home matches against Leicester in all competitions. Leicester do act as something of a bogey team as far as Spurs are concerned, can Jose Mourinho put to a rest another hoodoo on Sunday?

If he is, then it may be a case of keeping Jamie Vardy quiet and with the former England international on 23 goals and three clear of his nearest rivals, the Golden Boot looks like it may be finding its way to the King Power at the end of the season.

While in terms of Vardy's output, his 23 goals mean that he has been responsible for 34% of Leicester's goals this season this equates to every three goals that the Foxes score, Vardy lands one of them.

Aston Villa have allowed their opponents the most shots per game in the Premier League this season, with 16.42. Something that certainly has not helped Dean Smith's men in trying to avoid the looming threat of relegation at the end of the season.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) has made the most accurate passes in his own half in the Premier League this season, with 1716. Although had he concentrated against Arsenal last week, that tally would have been slightly higher.

Crystal Palace have got the deckchairs out; six straight defeats and they are limping towards the end of the campaign. They may be safe from the threat of relegation something that has obviously tied into this bad form, but will it now ask questions regarding Roy Hodgson's employment status.

Palace's chairman Steve Parish will have a decision to make and the fact that the next season comes around so quickly, might just be the sole reason why the former England boss does not become the former Eagles boss as well.

With that said and without being ageist (the last thing we want at FPLBet towers is an end of season lawsuit, Hodgson is not getting younger and change will have to be made eventually, it now depends on how soon that change is actually made.

Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League matches, an incredible run, but you do wonder how costly those two dropped points against Southampton will prove to be. We'll know the answer to that by the end of next weekend.

Newcastle United have had the fewest corners per game in the Premier League this season, with 3.94. A fascinating stat when you think about, to have no more than four corners per game on average, would suggest some incredibly off target shooting and nothing that even threatens the opposition defence.

Aaron Ramsdale (Bournemouth) has made the most saves from long shots in the Premier League this season, with 49. He may be a steady hand from distance, but the most important stat is what he can keep out from close range and it is that, which more than likely sends the Cherries to the Championship.
