GW3 Stats - The Top Ten

Share post on:

Premier League GW3 Starts Saturday 26th September 2020

With another week of Premier League action in the can, it is time to once again crunch the numbers and carry out some statistical analysis, while where better to start than by looking at the top 10 overall FPL points scorers (players not managers around the globe)

Mohamed Salah topped the table after his opening weekend exploits against Leeds, but where does he sit in the current table? A table that looks as follows:

The Top 10

There's a new king in town and it comes in the way of Heung min-Son, as after his incredible four goal haul at Southampton and a quartet of strikes that will have Saints fans wincing at their defensive line, the South Korean is top of the standings with 26 points.

By outscoring Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the young English forward must make do with second in the standings instead and with him being just a point behind Son, he could prove to be a very handy option in attack.

From there, 23 seems to be the magic number and with four players all this current points haul, Leicester's Timothy Castagne is joined by a trio of attacking talent, as Harry Kane, Wilfried Zaha and Mohamed Salah also claim joint third.

It was an incredible week for Harry Kane, as not only did he get on the scoresheet against Southampton but he also laid on all four of Son's goals and in doing so, showed an element to his game that sometimes goes unnoticed.

If it was a quietish week for Mohamed Salah, the same cannot be said for Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha and after earning a brace against Manchester United, the Ivorian has already scored three times this season.

Patrick Bamford is a player who is often labelled as to good for the Championship and not good enough for the Premier League, although on early evidence and the face the has scored 21 FPL points thus far, he seems to be doing fine.

While Leeds players pack out the next two slots in the top 10 table, as Helder Costa and Mateusz Kilch have earned 19 and 18 points respectively after impressive showings against Fulham last Saturday.

Rounding off this week's list is Sadio Mane and after scoring against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the Senegalese forward has 18 points for his first two efforts of the season, a tally that will surely get a lot bigger in just a short amount of time.

Did You Know?

While we should not forget the quick stats blast either and Manchester City have been winning at both half time and full time in their last 7 home matches (Premier League). Which does not bode well for Leicester on Sunday.

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Manchester United's last 11 away games (Premier League). Could that change as they go to Brighton on Saturday afternoon? Most important for United, is their need to get off the mark after defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Chelsea's last 8 away games (Premier League). With the way that West Brom have been defending as of late, this insight almost looks like a banker on Saturday.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have attempted the most long balls per game in the Premier League this season, with 73. A tactic that unfortunately did not suit them well on Monday against Manchester City.

Sheffield United's Johnny Egan is the early season Premier League bad boy with one booking and one sending off to his name.

Leeds have attempted the most passes that were played off the ground per game in the Premier League this season, with 54. They may have only played two games in the division since their return, but it is fair to say that they have been a refreshing inclusion to proceedings.

What is arguably the most fascinating statistic of all, is the fact that after the first 18 Premier League games of the season, not one of them has ended in a draw. Will it carry on to the end of the third gameweek?
