Premier League GW27 Saturday 22nd February 2020
A collective sigh of relief as FPL managers have survived the winter break and although there was a split gameweek of action, the last two weekends have felt like there is something missing and that something was a full fixture schedule.
Thankfully there is one on the horizon over the course of a long weekend and with that in mind, it is time to dust off our book of numbers, as we once again return to everyone's favourite statistical series. That's right, it is time for another round of….
Did You Know?
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 11 of Crystal Palace's last 13 home games (Premier League). When you consider that the South London outfit have scored the fewest league goals this season, you can begin to understand why.
Roy Hodgson arguably has just enough quality to stay up, but whether this streak of poor results is the evidence needed to move on the former England manager at the end of this campaign, is something that remains to be seen.
Not only that but the Eagles have the current longest streak without a win, and it is one that has seen Roy Hodgson's men go seven matches without a victory, it is fair to say that are troubling times at Selhurst Park.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Aston Villa's last 11 away games (Premier League). Great for the neutral, but Aston Villa's aversion to defensive stability is certainly causing sleepless nights for manager Dean Smith.
Bournemouth have allowed their opponents the fewest attempts from set piece situations in the Premier League this season, with 10. That said, they are still on a goal difference of minus 14 before this weekend, so it's open play which should certainly be Eddie Howe's focus.
Liverpool have won their last 20 home matches (Premier League).
Liverpool have scored at least 2 goals in 19 of their last 20 home matches (Premier League).
Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in 10 of their last 11 matches (Premier League).
Liverpool have won their last 17 matches (Premier League)
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 43 league matches, the second longest run in English top-flight football. The records keep tumbling and you get the feeling that more and more are going to be broken before the end of the season and maybe even into the next one.
Ben Foster (Watford) has made the most inaccurate long balls in the Premier League this season, with 466. Which with his propensity for time wasting, probably took more than a million minutes to poorly distribute.
Joelinton has failed to score a goal in over 2,000 Premier League minutes for Newcastle. An absolute carthorse if there ever was one.
Danny Ings has scored 15 Premier League goals this season for Southampton, a contribution of 47% to their total goals during this campaign. A ratio that is the highest contribution of all the league's top 10 marksmen.
Jamie Vardy has had just 53 shots this season (both on and off target), which when you compare to his 17 goals, means that he needs an average of 3.10 shots per goal. Making him the most efficient forward in the Premier League's top 10.
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) has taken the most penalties in the Premier League this season, with 7. Whether that figure increases before the end of the season and especially with his current injury, we will have to wait and see.
Brighton have won the most aerial duels this season with 54.9% of all contested, and they are closely followed by Liverpool with 53.3%.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) has attempted the most passes in the opposition half in the Premier League this season, with 1363. More proof that this a man who plays much higher up the pitch than his right back position would suggest.
Manchester City have the highest average possession with 61.1% and Pep Guardiola's men also have the highest average passing accuracy at 88.7%. That said, it seems that this season, possession is not nine tenths of football's law.
Leicester have made the most tackles per game in the Premier League this season, with 19.81. Tackles (Leicester) versus possession (Manchester City) this weekend, this will make for a highly entertaining clash.
