GW25 Stats - Number Crunching Time

Share post on:

Premier League GW25 Saturday 1st February 2020

There is always something disconcerting about an F.A. Cup weekend, although I can't quite put my finger on it. Ah, it's just come to mind, it means that the ability to earn much needed Fantasy Premier League points is curtailed.

Thankfully, normal service is resumed this weekend and that also means one other thing, that is time for another batch of big numbers and statistical titbits, as we serve up another weekly does of everyone's favourite series….

Did You Know?

Watford have had their woodwork hit the most times in the Premier League this season, with 11. Talk about riding your luck at times. However, you could argue that they ran out of luck against Aston Villa last week.

Norwich have given away the most penalties in the Premier League this season, with 7. That ill-discipline has certainly played a part in Norwich's struggles this season.

Then again, Norwich have made the fewest accurate crosses per game in the Premier League this season, with 2.63 and certainly won't have helped either.

Aston Villa have allowed their opponents the most attempts from counter attacks in the Premier League this season, with 22. Something that manager Dean Smith will certainly have to address if the West Midlands outfit are to stay up.

Arsenal have drawn their last 4 away matches (Premier League). Which is not a stat that Gunners fans will want to hear, especially as they go up against a Burnley side who have recently got the better of both Leicester and Manchester United.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Leicester's last 7 games (Premier League). Does this one lend itself to plenty of goals? Then again, will the curse of the lunchtime kick-off scupper everyone's plans?

Crystal Palace have the worst streak without a win at present with 5 games. Although it must be said that they have drawn four of those. Are the Eagles the most average team in the Premier League this season?

Jefferson Lerma has now gone clear as the player with the most Premier League bookings this season with nine. Not sure you would want him in your fantasy team or any other Bournemouth player at present for that matter.

Then again, his teammate Diego Rico has blocked the most crosses in the Premier League this season, with 19. Although you don't get points for blocks in the world of FPL, so my original point still stands.

Manchester United have the longest current streak in terms of games without a Premier League goal, one that stands at two matches. A run that has started since the injury to Marcus Rashford. Coincidence? I think not.

Newcastle United have made the most clearances per game in the Premier League this season, with 27.46. It may not be pretty, but it is working, and fans are even starting to sing Steve Bruce's name on Tyneside. It's a miracle!

Manchester City have had the most shots per game in the Premier League this season, with 19.92. That's not what any Tottenham defenders want to hear in preparation for Sunday's meeting in North London.

Also, Manchester City have hit the woodwork the most times in the Premier League this season, with 17. But then again, if you are having the most shots on goal, the likelihood of hitting the woodwork also increases. Therefore, I guess it stands to reason.

Not only that but Manchester City are unbeaten in their last five matches. The second-best streak behind Liverpool (that is if Liverpool don't somehow lose to West Ham on Wednesday).

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) has scored the most left footed goals in the Premier League this season, with 8 and he has had the most open play or fastbreak attempts in the Premier League this season, with 65. “Mo Salah, you dancer”. Not the words from me but of former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Jan Bednarek (Southampton) has made the most defensive clearances in the Premier League this season, with 127. Has anyone else noticed that Southampton have lost a lot fewer games since Ralph Hasenhuttl started growing a beard?

Harry Kane has scored 29% of Tottenham's goals this season, with 11 to his name. I wonder if any other Spurs forward (do they have any others?) will beat that tally come the end of the season. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
