Premier League GW23 Saturday 18th January 2020

The Premier League is back in full swing and last weekend's action highlighted just how tough it can be at the bottom of the table. With Bournemouth slipping into the bottom three and Aston Villa getting mauled by Manchester City, these two clubs look set for a bleak mid-winter.

However, there is no need for you to despair (unless you are suffering Bournemouth or Aston Villa fan) that's because I come armed with my weekly bundle of numerical goodness and that means it is time for another round of……

Did You Know?

Liverpool are now THIRTY-EIGHT Premier League games unbeaten, a streak that is more than a year long in terms of days and the equivalent of a full season when considering the number of fixtures played.

This weekend they will look to extend another run and that is the fact that they have won all their last 18 Premier League matches at Anfield. Not just gone unbeaten but won. The question is whether Manchester United can ruin another party this weekend.

Manchester City have won 27 of their last 31 home matches (Premier League). Usually a statistic like this would show a team's dominance Premier League. However, Liverpool have gone on to raise the bar just that little bit further.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 14 of Aston Villa's last 17 games (Premier League). Although as of late, that statistic has come around more because of Villa's leaky defence rather than their own attacking prowess.

Arsenal have made the fewest interceptions per game in the Premier League this season, with 9.09. A statistic that shows Mikel Arteta still has plenty of work to do, in order to shore up the Gunners defence.

That said, they won't be getting any tips from Manchester United because, Manchester United have had their passes intercepted the most times per game in the Premier League this season, with 12.59.

Kevin De Bruyne continues to be the assist king in the Premier League this season, the Belgian now has 14 to his name. That equates to two assists every three games or against Aston Villa, it means two assists in a single game.

Norwich's run without a win has extended to nine and they play host to Bournemouth on Saturday, who themselves have not won any one of their last five. Did someone say ‘relegation six-pointer' at Carrow Road this weekend?

Richarlison (Everton) has had the most shots from set pieces situations in the Premier League this season, with 7. He is starting to prove his worth regarding FPL and is arguably one of the go to midfielders at present.

Burnley have dribbled past their opponents the fewest times per game in the Premier League this season, with 6.55. I don't want to accuse them of ‘hoofball' but let's be honest, that statistic is doing them absolutely no favours at all.

Although the lack of dribbling does tie into this: Chris Wood (Burnley) has scored the most headed goals in the Premier League this season, with 5.

Ayoze Pérez (Leicester) has got substituted off the most times in the Premier League this season, with 15. I think that's more to do with the strength in depth that Leicester have and not because the Spaniard has played badly on 15 separate occasions.

Manchester City have had the most shots per game in the Premier League this season, with 19.77. I think the performance against Aston Villa would have certainly helped bump the average.

Watford have been winning at both half time and full time in their last 3 matches (Premier League). Which is not the kind of thing you want to hear if you are a Tottenham supporter, can the Hornets continue their incredible form this weekend?

Wesley (Aston Villa) has committed the most fouls in the Premier League this season, with 43. Although unfortunately for him and the nasty injury he picked up, he will not have the ability to add to that tally for the rest of the season.

Danny Ings percentage contribution stays at 52% for Southampton the highest of any player in the Premier League. Would you give him a seat on your Euro 2020 plane (even if England are playing all their games at Wembley) let us know your thoughts in the comments.
