GW16 Stats - The Top Ten

Premier League GW16 Starts Monday 28th December 2020

Merry Christmas to you and yours and with the Boxing Day schedule now behind us, it is time to leap into the next round of fixtures. Which means only one thing, it is time to put on the comfy trousers and gorge on even more Premier League action.

With the turnaround of fixtures being tight, this gameweek has the potential to catch the odd FPL manager out, as they are too busy knocking down the eggnog and forgetting to do their team before the deadline.

Of course, that's the last thing that we want to see and therefore, it is time to provide you once again with another snapshot of who the highest scoring players in the FPL game are at present and a deeper dive, into the men you should be selecting.

At the top of the pyramid is the Egyptian king, as Liverpool's Mohamed Salah stays top for the second gameweek running and even though he drew a blank against West Brom, his closest rivals failed to do any real damage in terms of the disrupting the status quo.

That's because Heung-min Son could only pick up three personal points at Molineux, as Tottenham only got one in their draw with Wolves and although the South Korean staying second is newsworthy, there is perhaps a bigger headline further down the list.

To be honest, you do not have to look all that far, as it concerns the battle for third place, a battle that Harry Kane is currently losing and when you consider that the England captain has straddled top spot with some regularity, this is something of a fall from grace.

A fall that sees Bruno Fernandes fly up in the other direction and with Manchester United's star man pulling the strings against Leicester, he now finds himself continuing his own personal upward trajectory.

While rounding out the top five is Jamie Vardy and with the dubious goals panel likely needed for Leicester's late equaliser and the decision not to present it to the Foxes' forward, several FPL managers would have likely been up in arms at such a decision.

Lying sixth is Dominic-Calvert Lewin as he only picked up a point for his efforts at Sheffield United, while Patrick Bamford scored a penalty against Burnley and courtesy of this, he is now two points behind the Everton forward in seventh.

Jack Grealish did everything but score or create against Crystal Palace and he drops to eighth because of it. While even though Callum Wilson was inactive, Wilfried Zaha failed to usurp him and subsequently continues to round out the top 10.

The highest scoring defender in the game at present is still Kurt Zouma, as the Chelsea defender now has 77 points for his efforts and the ‘keeper you should all be clamouring for, is Emiliano Martinez who has the same haul between the sticks.

Did You Know?

Fulham have drawn their last four matches (Premier League). With Tottenham's brand of anti-football on show at present, what price would you get on that run extending to five?

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 11 of Man City's last 12 games (Premier League). It seems that gone are the days of City putting teams to the sword by four or five goals, something that surely will not happen when they travel to Everton.

Chelsea have won their last 6 matches against Aston Villa in all competitions. That does not make for good reading, as far as Dean Smith is concerned. Then again, records are always there to be broken.

Aaron Ramsdale (Sheffield United) has made the most inaccurate long balls in the Premier League this season, with 240. Obviously not the sole reason for the Blades' poor season so far, but something that certainly does not help either.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) has had the most shots off target from direct free kicks in the Premier League this season, with 6. Not quite hitting the same heights in terms of assists. To be honest, he's not hitting those heights at all.
