GW14 Stats - The Top Ten

Premier League GW14 Starts Saturday 19th December 2020

‘Twas the gameweek before Christmas and FPL managers across the world will be hoping that their stockings will be filled full of points over the course of the festive period and although there is a feast of football on offer, it is now time to second guess those in charge of Premier League clubs.

Because with the action coming thick and fast, those 25-man squads are going to have to be put to work and with rotation being most likely, can you work out when the star names will be rested to the bench?

Match the thought process of a Jurgen Klopp or Jose Mourinho and your quest for the title will continue at quite a pace. While if your logic is out of sync, then it could be disaster by the turn of the year.

Now though, it is time to take stock of the top scoring players in the world of FPL and with one third of the season in the history books, we are starting to get a better idea of just who the genuine have and have nots are. While it is a list that currently looks as follows:

It is once again all change at the top, as although the Tottenham talismanic duo continue to lock the top two slots again, the order has once again changed and to go along with his newly acquired Puskas award, Heung-min Son moves back to the number one slot in the charts.

His goal against Liverpool, now gives him a five-point advantage over teammate Harry Kane and if the England captain had buried a rather simple header in the second half, it could have been a far different story for both he and his teammates.

Also scoring in that encounter was Mohamed Salah and although there was a large amount of fortune with the opening goal of the game, the Egyptian international will have absolutely no complaints especially as he now has broken 100 FPL points for the season.

Salah is edging ever closer to the Tottenham pair and by doing so, is leaving the rest of the top 10 behind. In fourth is Jamie Vardy and after an impressive showing against Brighton, he failed to build on that against Everton in midweek.

Although his opposing forward in that game did and with Dominic-Calvert Lewin bagging a second assist in as many fixtures, the Everton forward now finds himself just a point behind Jamie Vardy in fifth.

It was a quiet night on Thursday for Bruno Fernandes, as he only picked the standard appearance points. While the same cannot be said for Patrick Bamford the night before and his goal for Leeds now sees him on 81 points in seventh.

It was a shutout for Jack Grealish on Thursday, but the additional midfield clean sheet point now sees him share eighth place with Wilfried Zaha. While Callum Wilson returns to the top 10 after helping himself to an assist on Wednesday.

Did You Know?

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 20 of Crystal Palace's last 25 home games (Premier League). With Liverpool making the journey to Selhurst Park on Saturday, do not expect that to be 21 in 26 come full time.

Then again - Liverpool have drawn their last 4 away matches (Premier League).

Sheff Utd have lost their last 8 away matches (Premier League). Surely the Blades can get something from their trip to Brighton at the weekend. Can't they?

Manchester City have completed the most passes per game in the Premier League this season, with 579.92. If ever there was a case study for having too much possession, then this is certainly it. All ball and no bite over the course of the past week. Things need to improve in front of goal.

With Tottenham losing to Liverpool in midweek, the longest unbeaten run in the division is now currently held by Liverpool themselves and they've not lost any of their last nine league outings.
