After the successful launch of the ‘Did You Know' stats series last week (well I say successful, no-one actually said they hated it), we are running with the mantra of ‘if it ain't broke don't fix it' and that means it is time for another blast of stats, that you might not necessarily been previously aware of.
Did you know?
Liverpool have lost just two of their last FIFTY-FIVE Premier League matches. Now I'm not a fan of stats that have an arbitrary cut off points, because where do you draw the line? However, even rival supporters would have to admit that is a mighty fine run of results.
Liverpool are undefeated in their last 42 home matches (Premier League). Which when you consider they play host to Tottenham this Sunday and just how rotten the North Londoners have been as of late, that does not make for good reading if you are a Spurs fan.
Tottenham have lost 8 of their last 10 away matches (Premier League). While this stat, just seems to reinforce the troubles that they will face in the upcoming meeting between last season's Champions League finalists.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Man Utd's last 6 games (Premier League). Something that highlights the lack of firepower that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has at his disposal and when you consider it cannot be fixed until January at the earliest, this is an issue that could only worsen further.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) has made the most accurate crosses excluding corners in the Premier League this season, with 11. Although that doesn't explain why the defender and his teammates went missing for the majority of their trip to Old Trafford last weekend.
Manchester City have got the most assists from openplay in the Premier League this season, with 21. Which when you consider that they are scoring an incredible 3.22 goals per game, arguably comes as no real shock to anyone.
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester) has made the most tackles in the Premier League this season, with 40. It obviously takes a lot to outFOX him (I make absolutely no apologies for that pun)
While teammate Çaglar Söyüncü has attempted the most passes in his own half in the Premier League this season, with 438. He has been turning in a number of classy performances this season and so much so, that's it's already a case of “Harry Who”
Two stats now, that aren't officially ratified but I think we can all agree on their validity:
We still don't know what Nicolas Pepe does in an Arsenal shirt, I don't think I need to back that one up when you consider he has scored a single goal this season and that was from the penalty spot.
Joelinton looks like he is lost in a Newcastle shirt and I can back that claim because:
Joelinton (Newcastle United) has had the most poor touches that lead to a turnover in the Premier League this season, with 43.
Sergio Agüero (Manchester City) has scored the most clear cut chances in the Premier League this season, with 6. Yet Pep Guardiola is still winding up FPL managers across the world in his decision to start Gabriel Jesus.
Nick Pope (Burnley) has attempted the most long balls in the Premier League this season, with 207. In all honesty, this is statistic is one that does not surprise me whatsoever.
Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham) has attempted the most passes in the Premier League this season, with 697. I would be generally interested to know, just how many of these have been successful and more importantly why are Spurs struggling to keep clean sheets this season?
Watford have failed to score in a match the most times in the Premier League this season, with 5. The more important stat though, is the one that has seen them fail to win any of their first nine games of the season. A quarter of the season in and it is fair to say that the table no longer lies.
Aston Villa have allowed their opponents the most shots per game in the Premier League this season, with 18. To be fair to Villa, they have certainly been an entertaining team this season � although being that inviting, may cause a number of headaches for manager Dean Smith.
However, John McGinn (Aston Villa) has had the most open play or fastbreak attempts in the Premier League this season, with 27. Which means as long as Villa can attack their way out of trouble, they might just have enough to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Bournemouth and Norwich finally earned their first clean sheets of the season and against each other, when they played out a 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium. That said, I'd still give Bournemouth defenders a wide FPL berth for the time being.
