Matchday 6 Preview

Share post on:

Southampton vs Bournemouth

Friday night football gets us underway this weekend, as Southampton play host to Bournemouth and with teams entering this encounter off the back of a win, it is fair to say that confidence will be high in both camps.

With 10th place playing host to 9th this weekend, it suggests that there is very little to split these two teams and therefore a draw could be the most likely of outcomes at St Mary's.

Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Bournemouth

Leicester vs Tottenham

Leicester suffered their first defeat of the season last Saturday after being edged out by Manchester United and with the Foxes having ‘Big Six' aspirations of their own, they play host to another member of that elite group this Saturday.

Tottenham look like they have found their ignition spark to their season, as they blew past Crystal Palace last weekend and they will look to use that as a springboard for the rest of the campaign.

Prediction: Leicester 1-2 Tottenham

Manchester City vs Watford

Manchester City start this weekend five points behind Liverpool at the top of the table and although it is still very early in the grand scheme of things, Pep Guardiola's men will have a point to prove after suffering such a shock defeat last weekend.

Next up for the Etihad outfit is Watford and after earning an impressive comeback point against Arsenal last Sunday, spirits will have certainly been lifted in the Hornets nest.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Watford

Burnley vs Norwich

Burnley left it very late to salvage a point against Brighton last weekend and although they left East Sussex with something to show for their efforts, the Clarets have not won since the opening Saturday of the season.

This weekend sees them play host to a Norwich, who after getting the better of Manchester City will be on cloud nine. The question is whether Sean Dyche's men can bring them back down to Earth.

Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Norwich

Everton vs Sheffield United

Everton came unstuck at the Vitality Stadium last Saturday and manager Marco Silva will not be all that pleased with the league position that he and his players currently find themselves in. However, with just a point separating 3rd and 11th, that situation can change very quickly.

This Saturday sees the Toffees play host to Sheffield United and although there has been unrest off the pitch, it is now up to manager Chris Wilder to make sure that is does effect matters on it.

Prediction: Everton 2-0 Sheffield United.

Newcastle vs Brighton

Newcastle may have given Liverpool an early scare last Saturday, unfortunately though that's all it turned out to be and after suffering a 3-1 defeat at Anfield, Steve Bruce's focus now turns to the visit of Brighton on Saturday.

Graham Potter was denied a first win since the opening weekend, as Burnley snatched a point late on at The Amex. Now the Seagulls will hope for a positive away result of their own.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Brighton

West Ham vs Manchester United

West Ham played out a bore draw on Monday night, although credit must go to Manuel Pellegrini's men for coming away from Aston Villa with a point after finishing the game with ten men. Now they will look to continue their unbeaten streak, as they play host to Manchester United on Saturday.

The Red Devils finally had some cheer from twelve yards, as Marcus Rashford's penalty was the difference against Leicester and that win puts United fourth in the table at the start of the weekend.

Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Manchester United

Crystal Palace vs Wolves

The Eagles certainly had their wings clipped last weekend, as Crystal Palace found themselves four goals down at half time and mauled by Tottenham at the new White Hart Lane. Now manager Roy Hodgson will have to put that result behind him and prepare for the visit of a struggling Wolves.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men may be in the Europa League this season, but they are still searching for a first Premier League win of the campaign and they go into this game currently lying second bottom.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolves

Arsenal vs Aston Villa

There's no doubting the ability that Arsenal have in attack, but it also apparent that their defence is incredibly substandard. Something that was apparent last Sunday, when they threw away a two-nil lead against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Thankfully they do seem to be a little tighter when playing at home and with Aston Villa failing to score on Monday, it should be a routine home win for the Gunners on Sunday.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Once again the best has been saved for last, as Frank Lampard's Chelsea play host to Liverpool on Sunday and after scoring five at Molineux in their previous outing, it is fair to say that the Blues now have their tails up.

Which they are going to need to have, when you consider just how rampant this Liverpool side have been thus far and they travel to West London looking to make it six league wins from six.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool
