Hello everyone - we are now onto week 7 in the wonderful world of FPL and we have a massive top of the table clash to make our mouths water this week. Last weeks matches saw good returns if you had Man City or Liverpool players and also if you backed Burnely to stop their slump. Top points for the week came from Liverpool's Matip and honourable mentions to Bernardo Silva and Gundogan of City. My own team had their best week (73) and that was without both Pedro and Arnautovic getting stripped on the Sunday.
SO what do we have ahead……
West Ham United v Manchester United
The early kick off sees 2 teams come together that had differing fortunes in the midweek League Cup clashes. West Ham may have been playing the bottom side in League football but an 8-0 win is still mighty impressive. Thr same cannot be said for the crisis laden Red Devils who went out at home to Championship opposition and seem to have civil war on the horizon with relations between Pogba and Mourinho at an all time low. The hammer will hope to take advantage of the disarray of ther opponents. Yarmalenko looks a danger again, Arnautovic is a threat if ft and Fabianski is scoring well over the past few weeks as the defence gets back on track. Utd will hope to have their top men on top form, Lukaku has been firing in recent weeks and Fred notched his 1st goal in English football in the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
Prediction WHU 1 2 MNU
Arsenal v Watford
Arsenal had a good 2nd half to take care of Everton last weekend and their 2 main strikers heled them selves to goals which will hopefully see them continue form into this game to boost both Emery and our own teams . Auba is still a major outlay for many of us and he is beginning to show the form that saw him be a force later on in last season. Cech kept his 1st clean sheet of the season so featured highly on the scoring charts, and will hope to find further success this week. Arsenal are now on a six-match winning run after back-to-back defeats to start the season and they'll be confident of extending that run against a Watford side they have beaten in four of the last five home league outings. The Hornets were the surprise early season pace setters, but have dropped points in the last 2 league games. Andre Gray got another goal at Fulham and the obvious threat of his partnership with Deeney will cause the Gooners backline issues.
Prediction ARS 3-1 WAT
Everton v Fulham
The Toffees came unstuck at the Emirates, but will be encouraged that they were in the game for long spells and just came short against a top team finding their form. Richarlison will again be the focus for the 19% of us who have him in their ranks. Keane also came back to bolster a defence still shorn of the summer signing Mina, although he may push for a start here. Fulham came back to grab a good 1-1 draw with Watford last time out, and in Mitrovic they have a striker who has already shown he knows where the goal is this season. 29% of player have the Serbian in their squad, and if you dont have him in your side, then why not?! Seri, Sessengnon and Schurrle (say that 3 times fast when drunk) were all rested for League Cup duty so will be feesh for the visit to Merseyside.
Prediction EVE 1-1 FUL
Huddersfield Town v Tottenham Hotspur
Huddersfield's poor start continued at Leicester, the Foxes dishing out a 3-1 defeat. The so far lack of goal threat must be a concern for Wagner, as the goal was only their 3rd in 6 matches and they have failed to trouble the scorers in their last 5 home league games. They need to pick up in forward areas if they are to haul themselves off the bottom, but the issue is there is no immediately obvious solution in the squad. Depoitre and Mounie are the only 2 names coming up, but they desperately need the midfield and defnce to chip in too, so Mooy may become vital if he can get going. Spurs will be relieved that they have returned to winning ways after3 defeats on the spin, and they will be looking forward to having a real go at the leagues bottom club. Whilst their fans will have one eye on the visit of Barca in the Champions league, Poch will hop his player focus on the task in hand. Eriksen looks to be out for a while with an abdominal injury so you may need to rotate or sell this major cog in the Spurs side for the next few GameWeeks. Lamela has scored in the last two league games and will be pushing to start here.
Prediction HUD 0-2 TOT
Manchester City v Brighton & Hove Albion
City were purring last weekend, as they thumped Cardiff 5-0. The sheer depth of City's talent pool was shown as Mahrez came off the bench to register his 1st City goals since moving to the champs. Bernardo Silva and Aguero continued their early season form with another great run out here. Ahead of Champions League duty in Germany midweek, Pep may rest a few so keep an eye on prematch noises on team selection ahead of this one. Brighton's loss to Spurs at home was a blow as the Seagulls had looked to keep up their late show specialist tag. They did grab an injury time goal showing they will still keep going till the end. Away at City is a tough task, and expect them to line up defensively here. Dunk and Duffy will be crucial and Balogun may start in a back 5 too. Murray continues to be the focal point going forward.
Prediction MNC 4-1 BHA
Newcastle United v Leicester City
Newcastle came home from London with 1 point after a 0-0 with Place, but the Magpies will hope to get their season really going here. They boast the worst home record in the top flight with 3 defeats, although those games were against 3 of last seasons top 6. The need fo points could see Rafa have a go here with Joselu and Rondon both in contention to start up top. The fact they were not in League cup action could work in their favour. Leicester bounced back from their disaster in Bournemouth wth a good 3-1 win at home. Vardy hit the goal trail again and the increasingly impressive Maddison scored a beauty of a free kick. Gray picked up a knock so will most likely miss the game, meaning a likely start for Ghezzal. Perhaps going unnotced in this season of fullback mastery is Ben Chilwell. He has been impressive on the left and is popping up with good points each week. One to watch.
Prediction NEW 2-1 LEI
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Southampton
Wolves picked up a big point at Old Trafford with a display of attacking football that many would not have predicted from a newly promoted side at such a venue. The increasing evidence is showing that Wolves are not your run of the mill newbie in the top flight and their early season form has prompted Jamie Redknapp to say they are the best side to ever be promoted. Moutinho's goal showed the Portuguese veteran can still turn it on and he is still the conductor of this team. Neves still has threat from set pieces, but the man catching a few eyes is Doherty at RWB. His energy up and don the touchline and getting into good areas has been key to Wolves success so far. Saints were well beaten at Anfield, and Hughes may ring the changes to see if he can get a reaction from his players. Ings is back after being unavailable against his parent club, and the likes of Armstrong and Ward-Prowse could come into contention.
Prediction WOL 3-1 SOU
Chelsea v Liverpool
An absolute corker of a match rounds off Saturday with the top 2 meeting at the Bridge in an early title contender battle. The 2 sides met in the League Cup, Hazard scoring the winner and possibly Goal of the Season at Anfield. However, the Reds were understrength for that one and you would expect the team that has started 100% so far to be mainly restored here. Chelsea dropped their 1st points at West Ham on Sunday past, the 0-0 not their best outing. Sarri will hope that Hazard will be continue where he left off but will be sweating over potential injuries to his backline that could see Cahill in from the cold to start. Liverpool were comfortable winners vs Southampton, and look to be a real title challenger under Klopp. Salah returned to scoring for, and the impressive debut season thus far for Keita continued. A massive match!!
Prediction CHE 2-2 LIV
Cardiff City v Burnley
Cardiff were roundly beaten at home by Man City, and the signs of a long hard season continue in the Welsh capital. Warnocks men have an identical record to Huddersfield scoring only 3 league goals so far and conceding 14. They did look like the least equipped of the 3 teams promoted, and they will also need to begin firing soon if they are not going to be back in the Championship next season. Camarasa is a creative spark for them in midfield and he could make the difference, supplying the front line. Bamba and Etheridge are still their top point scorers. Burnley put their bad run to bed seemingly taking apart Bournemouth 4-0 at Turf Moor. Vydra did come in like we said last week and opened the scoring, with fellow striker Barnes netting twice late on. Burnley have now settled and without the distraction of the Europa League, Dyche will expect his mean to pick up another win here.
Prediction CAR 1-3 BUR
AFC Bournemouth v Crystal Palace
Monday night is on the south coast, and Bournemouth will be looking to put last weeks drubbing behind them with the visit of Palace. Eddie Howe will have been left scratching his head as the Cherries came into that game on good form and will no doubt be looking to get right back on the horse here. 18.6% of us have Fraser in our squad and the Scot will hope to inspire his team and get chances for the front 2 of King and Wilson. Begovic has also had a good start and will hope to keep a clean sheet here. Place would have been disappointed to not get all 3pts at home to Newcastle and will travel in good spirits having won 3-0 at WBA in the League Cup. Townsend scored a cracker in that game and he will be key in supporting Zaha in the final third here. Wan-Bissaka and Sakho contine to accumulate points each week and will need to stay strong here in the face of a likely Bournemouth onslaught.
Prediction BOU 2-1 CRY
Here's to a good week in the FPL for us all and until next week
