Hi guys, and welcome back to the relative normality of the FPL after the long, long, long international break. I'm sure like me, many of you will be delighted to be back to domestic action and also taking the reins again of your FPL charges. The international break offered a lot of us the chance to use the wildcard and change up the men you hope will point heavily for you over the coming weeks. I have activated it myself, with Kane and Kante shipped out for Pedro and Aguero as the highlights of my changes.
Onto the preview and again there are massive fixtures over the course of the weekend for you all to maximise pointage.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
The Saturday lunchtime game kicks the weekend off with a bang. 2 of the biggest sides in the league clash at Wembley (yes Spurs are there for the foreseeable) and the home fans will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing collapse last time out at Watford. Tottenham have a good record vs Klopp's men and had a good 4-1 win last season at home. The continued good form shown by Lucas Moura sees him becoming a key man for Spurs and Eriksen's good form for Denmark shows the quality he can bring as well. Son is also back after avoiding national service in Korea, but expect him to be phased into action. The Reds come to London with maximum points from their opening games, and they wil be hoping to continue that form. New Scotland captain Robertson has been one of the top FPL performers so far, and he will be key on Saturday in his battle on that flank with Trippier. The front 3 are the main dangermen again, but Mane is the man who looks to be in best early season form. Allisson will hope that the mistake at Leicester was a one off. A massive game!!
Prediction Tot 2-2 Liv
AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester City
The Cherries tasted defeat for the 1st time in the PL this season last time out at Chelsea, so will look to get back on track against the Foxes. Fraser has been scoring highly but missed the midweek match for Scotland so he will be a doubt for this weekend. They will rely on King and Wilson again to provide goals, and Ake is continuing to perform at the back. For Leicester, they will be delighted to welcome back the talismanic Vardy after his ban, and having been well rested without England duty could see him be out for goals on the south coast. Creative juice will again flow from Maddison and Ghezzal, the latter notching his first PL goal after the Allisson howler. A tight game between 2 sides who have actually started relatively well so far
Prediction Bou 2-1 Lei
Chelsea vs Cardiff City
The proverbial home banker here with Sarri and his men looking to continue their perfect start to the season with the visit of one of the relegation favourites. Sarriball has been working well and I can't see much getting in their way this week. Chelsea tick with the industry of Jorginho and Kante in midfield and the class and style added by Hazard at the top end. Alonso continues to rack up the points in the FPL Fullback Fiesta we have been treated to so far and the marauding could bring more points for the nearly 40% of us that have him in our teams. Cardiff were unlucky not to take anything from the Arsenal game last time out, having shown guts but ultimately no glory. Their 1st 2 goals in the last game were welcomed and their main danger man Ward will be asked to try and trouble the scoreboard again. A tough shift for him but Warnocks team will need to show up defensively so if they are to get a result here, then defenders like Bamba and Morrison could score points as value options in your selection.
Prediction Che 4-0 Car
Huddersfield Town vs Crystal Palace
The Terriers notched a valuable point at Everton in their last game, and Wagner set the team up as 5-4-1 to contain things away from home. Although useful in gaining that good result, you would expect them to come out a bit more at home in a game they would be targetting in their bid to stay up for another season. Billing notched the vital goal last time, and he along with Mooy look again to be the main creative sparks feeding Mounie up top. Palace will hope that Zaha returns as they looked toothless in the loss at home to Southahmpton. Doubts over Benteke as well mean that option are light in attack. FPL fans will hope to see Wan-Bissaka and Van Aanholt rediscocer the form that saw them good purchases before. Another tight affair.
Prediction Hud 0-0 Cry
Manchester City vs Fulham
Another seemingly easy home win in prospect here for Guardiola and his team. They returned to winning ways against Newcastle, even if it was much closer than we were all hoping. Most would expect another win here. Fulham have actually begun the season well but defensive frailty was highlighted at Brighton, throwing away a good 2 goal lead to end uo with a point. City and their array of attacking talents should be licking their lips at the prospect and those of us still to use our triple captain chip may look again to Aguero to fire some extra points our way. Walkers goal last tie saw him into the FL Team of the Week and Mendy on the opposite flank has been outstanding so far. Fulham have good forwards in Schurrle and Mitrovic and will hope they get the chance to influence the game on Saturday. Again, if they are to emerge with anything the defence will need to score highly, but I cannot see past City here.
Prediction MNC 3-1 Ful
Newcastle United vs Arsenal
The start of the season has not been good on Tyneside, 1 point from 4 games does not make good reading thus far. The detail behind the results is they have narrowly lost to City, Spurs and Chelsea who most will struggle against this season and they have another PL Heavyweight coming to town on the weekend. Rafa will hope for more luck this time around, but the defensive displays of recent weeks will need to change. Big games for Rondon and Joselu will be needed to win this one. Arsenal eventually secured the 3 points at Cardiff, with 2 cracking goals from Lacazette and Aubameyang showing the potential of their forward line. Emery fell upon 2 up top in that game and it would make sense to stick with that into this game. Monreal and Mustafi have also shown up well so far for the Gooners, with the German grabbing the other goal last time out.
Prediction New 1-2 Ars
Watford vs Manchester United
A visit to Vicarage Rd ends our Saturday, with Watford wanting to keep 100%. Their comeback win vs Spurs showed steel and the surprise package at the top will hope to see Deeney, Hughes and Pereyra pull the attacking strings yet again. Holebas has been a revelation (another fullback!) and the Hornets will hope he can continue this here. Utd won last time, so Jose and his troops will hope the win at Turf Moor is the springboard for better things. The trouble for most is not knowing which Utd will turn up. They have the talent in Mata, Pogba and Sanchez, just whether the attitude will match in this tricky tie. Lukaku will be hungry for more goals having got off the mark but Rashford's rash red means he is missing.
Prediction Wat 1-1 MNU
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burnley
Molenyeux hosts the early Sunday KO, with Wolves hoping to show up again at home like they did against City. The very late win at West ham will have boosted confidence and Nuno will have his men up for this. He will need big showings again from the likes of Neves and Jimenez going forward and Jonny and Patricio at the back. Wolves will come into the game as favourites and it will be interesting to see how a team that was rampant last year at Championship level cope with that tag for the 1st time this term. Burnley no longer have the distractions of Europe so Dyche will hope for an improvement in league form. Wood and Barnes will battle for the striking role and Tarkowski will be still on a high after starting for England on Tuesday. Watch out for Hendrick who is a very under rated player and one who I think will be a main man this season for the Clarets.
Prediction Wol 2-1 Bur
Everton vs West Ham United
At Goodison, Everton come into the game after a disappointing home draw last time and also looking like having a dearth of options in attacking areas with Walcott and Calvert-Lewin expected to miss out and Richarlison still suspended. Tosun could be key as the big money Turk will surely start. Silva is showing early promise, but the team does seem to rely heavily on Richarilson, the Brazilian having shown his class again with 2 goals on his first start for the national team this at midweek. They will take comfort from the opposition who seem intent on shooting themselves in the foot this season with some questionable performances already. Pellegrini will look to his men to buck up their form here. Arnautovic remains their biggest threat, but he can only do so much and an improvement at the back especially will be needed to get any change for this one.
Prediction Eve 2-1 WHU
Southampton vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Monday night and we're off to St Marys for this clash of 2 teams who are amongst the tips for the drop this year. Saints will be buoyed by their great win at Palace on GW4 and the deadline day signing of Ings is already looking like it will be vital for them this term. The returning Hojberg bagged the injury time clincher last time out, and he is another player they will look to lead them on. Keeper McCarthy has also been quietly gaining FPL points and will be crucial if Southampton want to stay in the division. Brighton fought back for a point at home to Fulham and they will look to the impressive Murray up top to get their goals. Brighton work hard across the pitch and their big point scorers in Midfield such as Knockaert and March will need to be on their game again here.
Prediction Sou 1-1 BHA
A good weekend lies ahead and the FPL train is due to pull away again.
So until next week….
LETS GO!!!
