Hi everyone, and welcome back to the preview of the weekend's fixtures. After another interminably long international break its good to get back into the more regular motions of the PL and the games this weekend have some interesting match ups. So on with the show so to speak…...
Brighton & Hove Albion v Leicester City
Our first match is at the Amex, where Brighton will hope to pick up after a poor run against Leicester. The international break came at a good time for The Seagulls, as Chris Hughton's side have lost back-to-back matches. They have a few injury problems clearing up as Gross, Propper and Button come back into contention. Stephens is starting a 3 match ban so will need to be replaced as well. Murray again will be the main attacking threat. For Claude Puel and his charges, the game gives the Foxes the chance to focus on the football again and he will be able to call on one of the signings of the season so far in Maddison, who missed England duty with injury. Vardy is a doubt and so is Maguire, with the forward having must chance of featuring. A tight game in prospect.
Prediction BHA 1-2 LEI
Everton v Cardiff City
Everton entertain Neil Warnock's side, with the home side having a defensive dilemma after Mina finally making debut at Chelsea last time out. The space he filled was vacated by the club-tied Zouma who was in good form before that game. Sigurdsson and Silva both missed national duty and will be given every chance to make this match given their importance to the side. Cardiff will hope to build on their win last time vs Brighton and although this will be tough they will come into the match with optimism. Paterson will come back from Scotland duty having featured in 2 wins, but he played right back rather than the advanced role he plays for his club side. Arter returns after suspension and should come back in, whilst Camarasa faces a fight to get back in after an impressive last outing from Harris.
Prediction EVE 3-1 CAR
Fulham v Southampton
Fulham became the 1st team to sack their manager in the break, as the Tinkerman Ranieri returned to the Premier League to replace Jokanovic. The Cottagers will hope for the new manager bounce when they face the Saints here, and heap more pressure on the beleaguered Hughes in the opposition dugout. It remains to be seen as to how the Italian will line up the Fulham side, but Mitrovic will continue to be vital and he scored on international duty so will be in good spirits. Anguissa and McDonald will definitely miss the match while Bryan could be available for the 1st time in 7 weeks. Southampton look likely to be without Ings as he appears to be losing his battle for fitness, and Bertrand is suspended after 5 bookings. Lemina and Elyounoussi are available and will come into contention for a start.
Prediction FUL 1- 1 SOU
Manchester United v Crystal Palace
Old Trafford plays host to United's match with Palace, and Jose will hope to have his players bounce back after a terrible Derby performance last time out. The 3-1 defeat at City could and should have been more and the concern for the fans is that they are already in danger of being cast adrift before Xmas. The visit of Palace gives them some comfort with their record of never having lost to the Eagles in the Premier League era. Shaw will miss out for sure, having picked up a 5th Yellow before the break. Pogba and Martial missed France duty, but both are due to feature here. Late tests await for the likes of Rashford and Lukaku. Hodgson brings his men north hoping to spring a surprise but could have a defensive crisis with both Sakho and Wan Bissaka struggling to make the fixture. Zaha missed the game vs Spurs before the break and will be desperate to make it against his old club.
Prediction MNU 2-0 CRY
Watford v Liverpool
Watford welcome the Reds to Vicarage Road, and maybe Sir Elton will make another appearance trying to sell us pianos or whatever that advert is supposed to be about. The Hornets haven't been in the best of form and have been blowing both hot and cold in recent weeks. However, Liverpool haven't been setting things alight either on the road and they have a poor recent record here in recent years. The little matter of Champs Lge action in Paris looms on the horizon too. For Watford, Hughes is a major doubt and Prodl and Cleverley remain sidelined. Expect Gray or Deeney to come back into the starting XI at the expense of either Success or Deulofeu. Klopp sees Henderson come back from England duty with a thigh complaint, meaning his place is up grabs for Fabinho or Keita. Shaqiri is in good form and comes back after a positive spell with Switzerland, and he may edge out the like of Firminho up top.
Prediction WAT 1-2 LIV
West Ham United v Manchester City
The Champions pitch up at the London Stadium as they face up to their former boss Pellegrini's West Ham side. The Hammers have coped admirably with injuries in recent week, going unbeaten in their last 3. They welcome back Mark Noble after suspension, who should slot straight into the space vacated by the now suspended Snodgrass. Wilshere and Carroll managed reserve team action so could be bench options here. City will most likely rotate the side ahead of Europe and given they had so many away with national tam. The long term injury to Mendy will harm not only City but many a FPL managers fortunes too. Expect Delph to come in, and for the likes of Bernardo Silva and Otamendi to be rested also meaning rare starts for Kompany or Gundogan.
Prediction WHU 0-3 MNC
Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea
Saturday night's match sees a London derby as Chelsea visit Wembley to take on a Spurs side in good recent form, and whose main man Kane scored that vital goal for England against Croatia over the weekend. The home side have struggled at home though, and will hope to better a record of only 2 wins there so far this season. Trippier has now joined the likes of Rose, Dembele and Sanchez on the treatment table and there may be a rest for Vertonghen ahead of Europe. Chelsea are still undefeated, but were disappointing at home to Everton last time out. They do have a virtually full squad to choose from, with Kovacic being the only doubt. Expect Morata and Willian to return for Giroud and Pedro.
Prediction TOT 1-1 CHE
AFC Bournemouth v Arsenal
Sunday's matches start at the Vitality with the visit of the Gunners to play a Bournemouth side who have dipped for the 1st time this season. The Cherries have lost successive Premier League matches for the first time this season and the international break came at the right time, even if their injury problems have not eased. Fraser scored for Scotland and played well in both games, finally transferring club for to the international stage. Begovic pulled out of the Bosnia squad with a hand injury so could be a doubt, whilst King also seems to be losing his race to be fit. Arsenal are unbeaten in all competitions since August but have struggled to turn draws into wins of late, drawing four of their last five in all competitions. Emery will hope to see his main men fit after both Lacazette and Aubameyang pulled out of their respective national squads. The long term injury to Welbeck leaves them short up top, but Koscielny nears a return after having missed the World Cup and the season so far.
Prediction BOU 1-3 ARS
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Huddersfield Town
Molyneux hosts a game that on paper doesn't immediately grab the attention but with both teams in need of a win here, we could see an entertaining game. Both sides saw 1-1 draws last time out, and will be hoping to notch 3 points here. Wolves are winless in their last four matches and continue to rue missing golden goalscoring opportunities. Nuno's side have slipped into the bottom half of the table as a result. They do have talented players so would hope that the likes of Cavaleiro and Jimenez begin to fire. Jonny has been ever present so far, but an injury picked up on Spain duty will see him miss the next few games. Huddersfield have taken four points from their last two league games their best run of form all season. The Terriers start the weekend one point adrift of safety. They will also take heart from the fact they have won the last 3 meetings of the sides 1-0. The Terriers have recently moved to 3-5-1-1 formation but with Zanka suspended and Lowe a major doubt, they may have to change this up.
Prediction WOL 1-0 HUD
Burnley v Newcastle United
Monday night football comes to Turf Moor as the Clarets welcome Newcastle for a bottom of the table 6 pointer. Burnley picked up a good point last time at the King Power and will be looking to get 3 points here against a Newcastle side that have picked up consecutive wins for the 1st time since April. The home side are likely to be without James Tarkowski after he underwent surgery on his hernia. Gibson and Pope are also nearing returns but this game could come too early for them. For the Magpies, they will hope that the recent form of Rondon continues after the frontman notched twice last time out. Matt Ritchie decided to not go on Scotland duty to save himself for games like this one as the team attempt to climb the table.
Prediction BUR 1-1 NEW
That's all for this week, some good games in prospect and as usual there will be ups and downs for us all in the FPL
Until Next Week
LET'S GO!!!!!
