Gameweek 2 Matchday Betting Tips

Share post on:

With the opening weekend of the Premier League season, it means the first step on the thirty-eight rung ladder has been taken and although it was something of a mixed bag in terms of bookmaker success, we're back to offer up another round of top-flight tips for this Saturdays matches.

GUNNERS EVENTUALLY FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS

The action gets underway at the Emirates, as Arsenal play host to Burnley and with the Gunners winning the last four meetings in North London, there is little to suggest that Unai Emery cannot mastermind a fifth successive win at the weekend.

Both teams got off to winning starts last weekend and that means someone's burgeoning one hundred percent record will be consigned to the scrapheap and with all signs pointing to Arsenal, odds of 1/3 might be the good foundation for your Saturday acca,

However, that bet alone is not going to make you rich and therefore, we may need to dig just a little deeper to find the maximum value and with the Gunners having a tendency to be stronger in the second half, it might be the halftime/fulltime market that suits us best.

There's no doubting Arsenal's strength at home but they sometimes need time to warm up and therefore a halftime draw/Arsenal win at odds of 11/4 should certainly be worth some Saturday consideration.

TIP: Draw/Arsenal Win in halftime/fulltime market at 11/4

CHERRIES PLUCKED BY THE VILLA

There is no doubting that Dean Smith's men gave a good account of themselves against Tottenham last Saturday and were it for a bit more nous at this level, then they would have undoubtedly pulled off the biggest shock of the opening weekend.

They came away from Tottenham's new home empty handed but full of confidence that they can hold their own in this division and with Bournemouth being held by fellow promoted outfit Sheffield United last week, is a first home win on the cards for the West Midlands outfit?

Bournemouth are such a mixed bag when it comes to form and odds and many punters would have seen a coupon or two thrown in the bin once Billy Sharp scored the Blades 88th minute equaliser at the Vitality Stadium.

Now considering that Villa are at home, it probably comes as no real surprise that they are the favourites. That said, a price of 13/10 for the hosts to get the better of Eddie Howe's Bournemouth looks incredibly inviting and will be worth mulling over in the next few days.

TIP: Villa to beat Bournemouth at 13/10

A HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH AWAITS

We're only in the second weekend of the season and already we are fortunate enough to witness two giants square off at the Etihad, as Manchester City play host to Tottenham and if Mauricio Pochettino's men are to be serious title contenders, they cannot afford defeat on Saturday.

In the last five Etihad meetings between these two sides, four of them have ended with both teams finding the net (only last season's 1-0 win for City, stopped it being a perfect five from five) and therefore for them to do so again at odds of 8/11 looks a shrewd move.

However, the shrewdest move of all could be backing Tottenham in the double chance market and in turn providing some for of insurance against Harry Kane and company going for the outright win which the very brave can back at 7/1.

If you think Tottenham will at least come away from Manchester with a point, then they can be backed on the double chance at 21/10 and should they do so, they may just show how much of a say they will have in this season's title race.

Tip: Tottenham Double Chance (Draw or Win) 21/10

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE ROUND UP

We've crunched the numbers and here are the four games that have the highest statistical chance of seeing both teams score this weekend (data based since 2014/15 season) and if you think there will be some rather leaky defences, here are the odds in which you can back them.

Most likely BTTS matches:

  • Brighton vs West Ham 57.63% and you can back this at 8/11
  • Chelsea vs Leicester 55.79% and you can back this at 4/5
  • Manchester City vs Tottenham 57.89% and you can back this at 8/11
  • Southampton vs Liverpool 51.58% and you can back this at 4/5
