This Saturdays Top Premier League Punts...

PUKKI SINGING LIKE A CANARY

After such a poor showing in their opening forty-five minutes of the season, you get the feeling that at least Norwich won't play any worse than they did at Anfield, on the very first night of this new Premier League campaign.

With the game already dead by the start of the second half, commentator Martin Tyler was trying to find any positive for Norwich to take away from Merseyside and he settled with this laboured nugget of “well at least they won the second half”

A relative pat on the back from the voice of the Premier League and that “win” came courtesy of Teemu Pukki's strike, one which would at least add a level of respectability to such a poor Norwich performance.

While there was no need for being respectable last weekend, as Norwich and Pukki in particular ran roughshod over a hapless Newcastle and recorded a rather comfortable 3-1 win, with their flying Finn bagging a hat-trick.

This means that Pukki has scored four goals already this season and is joint top of the scoring charts, alongside Manchester City's Raheem Sterling and when players are in such a rich vein of goal getting form, they have to be backed the following week.

Therefore, if you think Norwich's main hitman will find the net against the new legally binding title of “Frank Lampard's Chelsea” then you can back him to score within ninety minutes at 2.30 or at 5.00 for him to open it.

Summary: Teemu Pukki to score first at 5.00 or score at 2.30

BEING FRANK FOR A MOMENT

Now just because we've tipped Teemu Pukki to score, doesn't necessarily mean that we cannot back Chelsea to win either and although they've picked up just a point for their troubles so far, they have had notable spells on top in each of their first two outings.

However, the difference between a good team and a great team is finding the net when in the midst of a dominant period and that is where Chelsea have been let down over the first two weeks of the season.

That said, this is a team that aspires of not just the top six but the top four and if Chelsea are to start showing their credentials for the campaign, then they are going to have to find a first win in the very near future.

With Chelsea in the Champions League this season and Norwich coming up from the Championship, the gulf in quality should be wide enough for Frank Lampard to earn a first official win as Chelsea manager and you can back the Blues at odds of 1.83.

Summary: Chelsea get first win of the season at 1.83

ANOTHER HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH AWAITS

Nowif I were a cynic, I'd say that the “fixture computer” has been hacked and this is why we are getting so many “Big Six” clashes so early in the season but because I can't prove this, I will have to end my conspiracy theory at the end of this sentence.

That said, with the prospect of Liverpool playing host to Arsenal on Saturday it should be a tie that lends itself to goals and although Arsenal look a bit more solid at the back, there is always a danger that they could collapse once more at Anfield.

At the same time, Liverpool did not look so robust away at Southampton and this is a tie that could be closer than you think. However, with the spankings that Arsenal have received in recent times, it only makes you wonder whether another is around the corner.

With Liverpool's attacking triumvirate looking like they've rid any cobwebs from a summer of international football, then they will be well placed to get the better of Arsenal on Saturday and if you think they will do so and there will be over 2.5 goals, you can back them at 1.90.

Summary: Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals at 1.90

While after our huge success on the BTTS picks last weekend all four were correct, here is another quartet for your consideration:

  • Liverpool vs Arsenal 58.33% chance you can back this at 1.55
  • Watford vs West Ham 58.13% chance you can back this at 1.60
  • Norwich vs Chelsea 55.00% chance you can back this at 1.57
  • Bournemouth vs Manchester City 52.66% chance you can back this at 1.90
