Betting Tips for Premier League - Gameweek 5

THE M23 DERBY

In terms of Crystal Palace vs Brighton, it's technically not a derby as 44 miles separate the two clubs. Then again try telling that to a supporter of either outfit and they will tell you that this is the game that matters the most to them.

In terms of hostility, this one is usually on the tastier end of the scale and although there will be no fans in attendance at Selhurst Park on Sunday, it should not mean that there is any less needle involved.

For Crystal Palace, it has been back to back defeats after back to back wins and manager Roy Hodgson will hope that his players can return to victorious ways after the first international break of the season.

While for Brighton, it has been a case of picking up just one win from the first four matches and although they've only earned three points for their troubles, their performances arguably deserve more than that.

In fairness to Brighton, they have been handed a rather difficult start in terms of the fixture list and although a trip to Selhurst Park is easier on paper, the hostility connected to this meeting is one that means this will not be easy either.

Which means with home advantage being granted to Palace this time around, they will be in the box seat in terms of gaining a positive result and therefore, backing the Eagles to soar on Sunday looks a rather shrewd bet.
Summary: Back Palace at the very inviting odds of 2.62

BLUES BUILD ON THEIR START

As far as Chelsea are concerned, their start to the Premier League season has been slightly underwhelming and with dropped points to both Liverpool and West Brom, you may expect the former but certainly not the latter.

However, their draw away at West Brom certainly displayed plenty of character, as they came from 3-0 down to snatch a point and although the defence may be a little shaky, the attack line seems to be firing on a near full set of cylinders.

This was certainly on display against Crystal Palace in their last league outing before the October international break, as Frank Lampard's new look side strolled to a comfortable 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

While it is Stamford Bridge that plays home to the meeting between Chelsea and Southampton this weekend and with the Saints winning back to back league fixtures, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl may bemoan the first hiatus of the season.

Because the positive head of steam that was being built by Southampton has just been paused and with the potential for international ring rust to set in, the Saints will have to hope this is not a factor come the weekend.

If it is, Chelsea should be ready to pounce and although the German pair of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have not quite taken the league by storm, this could be the ideal game in which to show their worth.

The Blues have picked up seven points from the first 12 on offer and although you cannot read too much into the early table, their current 7th place standing is somewhat under par. However, a win over Southampton this weekend, will certainly see them rise further up the league ladder.
Summary: Chelsea to win at home at 1.50

FOXES BOUNCE BACK AGAINST VILLA

Because of the surprise results that happened elsewhere that day, Leicester's 3-0 defeat to West Ham was somewhat overlooked and after suffering such a loss at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes' perfect start had come to an end.

Something that they will look to put right this weekend, as they play host to an Aston Villa side who put a phenomenal seven goals past Liverpool and in doing so, extended their own perfect start to proceedings.

The short trip to Leicester will be the acid test regarding whether that win over Liverpool was a fluke or not and with Brendan Rodgers looking to return his players to winning ways, this may prove to be the first loss of the season for Dean Smith and his players.

With it being 3rd versus 2nd at the start of the latest fixture round, this should be a highly entertaining clash in the East Midlands and one that sees the hosts come out on top at full time. Therefore, backing Leicester to win seems the wise move here.
Summary: Back Leicester to win at 1.85
