MANAGERLESS CHELSEA BOUNCE BACK

What a way to start the week and although Chelsea got the better of Luton in the F.A. Cup, that was not enough to save Frank Lampard from being the shown the Stamford Bridge exit door, as Uncle Roman once again shows his ruthless side.

The Blues have admittedly undergone some awful form in the Premier League as of late and although there is no replacement named yet (or at least Thomas Tuchel has not been installed at the time of writing), their midweek opposition may end up being the most suitable of all.

That's because, Chelsea go up against a Wolves side who have not won any of their last six league outings and although it would be lazy to say this is solely down to the absence of Raul Jimenez, it has undoubtedly been the root cause for their woes.

With that said, manager Nuno Espirito Santo has at least aimed to rectify this issue and with the arrival of Willian Jose from Real Sociedad, the hope, if not the expectation, is that he will supply the firepower that they have most definitely been lacking.

Of course, when these two sides met back in December, it was Oliver Giroud who put the Blues ahead after the interval and at one point, it looked as if Chelsea would return to the capital with all three.

However, a late turnaround saw Wolves come out on top and it was that result, that has arguably started the real downfall for Frank Lampard. He won't be able to get revenge anytime soon, but his former charges certainly should this midweek.

RED DEVILS STAY HOT

With them currently top of the Premier League shop and disposing rivals Liverpool out of the F.A. Cup, it is certainly a good time to be a Manchester United fan and it is especially a good time, to be the manager of such a historic club.

Because when you look back to just a couple of months ago, the thought of the Red Devils being top of the table was almost laughable and even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's managerial prospects did not look all that encouraging.

However, what a difference a 13-game unbeaten Premier League run makes and with the second half of the campaign now getting underway, Solskjaer will be expecting his players to extend that run further in midweek.

That's because, they go up against a rather hapless Sheffield United outfit and although they would have been handed some respite from their woes at the weekend, a cup victory over Plymouth will do little to ease their stresses elsewhere.

To the point, where this fixture becomes about a home banker as it can be and although we have seen some strange results throughout the first half of the season, don't expect one at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

NO VARDY, NO PARTY

The news that Leicester fans really did not want to hear, as with Jamie Vardy having undergone surgery, it will have left a big hole in the Foxes' forward line and of course, a bigger dent in their title winning hopes.

No Vardy to call upon, will undoubtedly be a test of Brendan Rodgers' squad depth and if Leicester are to repeat the incredible feat of 2016, then the current supporting cast are going to have to step up to the plate in midweek.

That's because, they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton and with the Toffees looking to thrust themselves back into the top four and beyond, this is a fixture that could have a bearing on both their hopes of future success.

Everton will be able to call upon a talisman of their own, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns from injury and after scoring against Sheffield Wednesday in the cup on Sunday, he will be fit and raring to go.

To the point, where it could prove to be the difference against a Leicester side who travel without their prized attacking asset and if Everton can come out on top in this one, it will provide some rather suitable value for the punters.
