Fantasy MLS Tips Mondogoal Daily Fantasy Football Advice Round 19 June 27th, 2015
For the purposes of this article, all prices and points are via our partners Mondogoal.
Hopefully you were able to follow our advice in the first half of this week's MLS offerings -- as long as you didn't invest in Javier Morales that is (*ahem*). It's impossible to predict a red card in the run of play, and Morales' -4.5 points from his dismissal hurt a lot of people. But Keane and Giovinco (our top picks for forwards) more than lived up to their potential. Between the two forwards, a total of 53.00 points were scored for owners. We had a good run last round, and we're hoping to duplicate those results here once again for this weekend's games.
The listings at
Mondogoal are broken down into multiple contests that range from Saturday and Sunday exclusive matches all the way to full-weekend games. Whatever you're looking for, whether you want a quick game or a game with more depth and sleepers, Mondogoal has you covered.
Here are Saturday's games:
DC @ Toronto
Montreal @ Philadelphia
Vancouver @ New England
Colorado @ Kansas City
Columbus @ Salt Lake
LA @ San Jose
Sunday's games:
NYRB @ NYCFC
Seattle @ Portland
Here are the best bets for each position, along with some value picks to help you afford your superstars:
GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDER TIPS
Listen, Portland just got hammered at LA to the tune of 5-0. It wasn't pretty. But Philadelphia was also trounced by LA to the tune of 5-1 the match previous, and they were able to secure a clean sheet against a depleted Seattle squad. I think Portland has the same potential for a massive bounce back effort.
Adam Kwarasey ($8.5, GK) has five clean sheets so far at home this year and looks like he'll have sufficient motivation to get his team back in defensive form after their most recent loss. Add that to that the fact that Seattle are missing their big hitters in Dempsey and Martins and Portland could wind up scoring big points out of their backfield come Sunday. If you want to pair a defender with Kwarasey, steer clear of Ridgewell who is on a one-game suspension, and try
Alvas Powell ($10.0, D) who regularly scores in the double digits due to his propensity to get forward in the attack.
A cheaper option, but also with a great home fixture, would be SKC's
Tim Melia ($5.4, GK). SKC take on Colorado, a team that has a total of seven matches this season that saw them finish the 90 without a score. Colorado are going to SKC from Orlando (another match in which they were shutout) and don't look to be the favorites to get the offense firing any time soon. Melia has scored 8 points or better in three of his last four matches, and looks primed for another big score this week. If you're looking for a defensive pair for Melia,
Jalil Anibaba ($7.4, D) has 7 points or better in three of his last four outings and does get forward on attack as well.
MIDFIELDER TIPS
Benny Feilhaber ($12.2, M) has been on a scoring tear lately. The SKC man has three goals in his last five matches and is always keen to give an assist. Over his last five matches, Feilhaber is averaging 10+ points per match -- and those scores come against competition much stronger than Colorado. Feilhaber is a must-have for those seeking steady points.
Lee Nguyen ($9.9, M) is a real steal at his price. Nguyen has scored 12.4 points in each of his last two matches and has really found his form later in the season. New England will be playing this fixture at home against Vancouver, and even though Vancouver are only averaging 1 GA on the road in their last four away matches, it's hard to see New England being held down in this match.
Juninho ($8.7, M) is a real value at his price -- but he deserves to be listed as one of the three best options at his position this week. Juninho's last two scores are 17.92 and 14.16 -- and his scoring for this week could be equally as high given that LA are traveling to San Jose. Now that LA are completely healthy, they've managed to score ten goals over their last two matches. Prior to this outburst, LA hadn't scored more than two goals in any match all year. Get on LA while they're hot. And get on Juninho before his price reflects his actual value to the team.
FORWARD TIPS
There isn't a lot of change here this round; it doesn't do anybody any favors to recommend different names simply for the sake of variety. The truth is that, like I said above,
Giovinco ($13.0, F) and Robbie Keane ($10.8, F) are both still the favorites to get big points this week. Giovinco gets the benefit of another home game and he'll be looking to add to his monster week. In his last match he had a goal and an assist and earned a penalty. Keane also had a goal but added two assists to his total points.
Toronto may have a bit more trouble cracking DC than they had with Montreal, but with
Michael Bradley ($8.0, M) and Jozy Altidore ($3.8, F) both scoring, it will be harder for DC to lockdown Giovinco exclusively. And LA should have no trouble blowing by San Jose in the condition that LA are in. San Jose have been given the benefit of playing against weakened teams lately -- and their luck has now run out with LA coming to town.
Outside of these two superstars,
David Villa ($9.4, F) has to be the clear cut favorite to get big points this week in the NY Derby. Villa's last two outings have seen him score 20+ points in each match. Maybe the NY Derby doesn't have the history other global derbys have, but everything has to start somewhere -- and Villa's form as of late is sure to make this edition of the NY rivalry a memorable one.
BARGAIN BUYS
If you take our advice again on Giovinco and Keane, you're going to need some productive players on the cheap. We have that covered too.
Starting out,
Sebastian Lletget ($6.4, M) is playing really well for LA since coming over from England. The attacking midfielder has double digit points in his last three starts and has found himself a definite role in this squad. If his production continues at the rate it's going, expect his price to start to rise sharply. Grab this player while he can still be paired with other superstars.
I already mentioned him above, but
Jozy Altidore ($3.8, F) is the very definition of a bargain right now. Altidore is trying to work himself back after injury, and his return is finally here. His goal in his last game gave him 11.01 points and he should continue to see his minutes increased each game now.
Looking farther back, you can try to cash in again on the NY Derby with
RJ Allen ($5.5, D). The defenseman has two starts in a row and earned an impressive 9.00 points in his last outing. Consider that NYCFC will be the favorites for this match -- and the NYRB are a mess in attack right now; they couldn't press a 1-0 advantage to anything more against a 9-man RSL side earlier this week.
FORMATIONS
After studying the results this week, the 3-4-3 seemed to be used by more of the winning players, though the 3-5-2 was used quite a bit as well. Since this is the second series of games for the week, there could be some tired legs out there. You may consider adding a 4 or 5 man backfield if you feel really strongly about a clean sheet or two around the league. The first games of this week saw five clean sheets, so the gamble could pay off again this weekend if you're feeling a conservative approach is the way to go.
