Just 2 games remain in this thrilling Championship season. The MK Dons were confirmed as the third side to get relegated after a heavy defeat at home to Brentford. They will join Bolton and Charlton in the Championship next season. Peter Whittingham kept Cardiff's playoff hopes alive with an injury time penalty to beat Bolton. They travel to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend needing a win to take the race for 6th to the final day. The only other issue that needs settling is the small matter of the automatic promotion race…. The top 3 are separated by 3 goals with them all on 87 points. Burnley lead the way thanks to a hardfought victory at fierce rivals Preston last Friday and the Clarets have a goal difference of +33. Middlesbrough are second on +32 after a goalless draw at home to Ipswich on Saturday. Brighton are a place further back with a goal difference of +30 after a comfortable 3-1 win at relegated Charlton. It's safe to say that the promotion race has never been so tight this late in a season. Middlsebrough play Brighton on the final day in what, depending on this weekend's results, will be a decider as to who goes up automatically. Tip 1 � Burnley to seal promotion.

With their fellow title challengers meeting on the final day, promotion is very much in Burnley's hands. Should either Brighton or Middlesbrough drop points this weekend, Burnley can seal an immediate return to the Premier League with a win at home to QPR on Monday. This is a real possibility as their rivals both face tricky looking games against top half teams while Turf Moor has been a fortress for the Clarets this season. Should they get the opportunity to secure promotion, it is sure to be a nervy atmosphere around Turf Moor which could lead to a tight game. In order to win, Burnley will need a strong defence so Tom Heaton and Ben Mee will be vital. Andre Gray and Sam Vokes have spearheaded their title challenge and are always a major threat.

Tip 2 � Hull to take advantage of disjointed Bolton.

Bolton fans will be just wishing that this season could finish now. 7 defeats in their last 8 has made dismal viewing for Trotters fans but it's not been for a lack of fight. Late goals have broken Bolton hearts recently, none more so than last week where they were denied a creditable point at Cardiff by a sickening late penalty. Their fate was sealed long ago and I don't see their fans having much to cheer when 4th placed Hull visit the Macron. Steve Bruce will be gearing his players for the playoffs, and will want a couple of impressive performances behind them as they battle it out for a place in the top flight. On paper they should have too much for Bolton and Abel Hernandez will look to continue his decent form. Robert Snodgrass has really come into his own in recent weeks and is always a threat at this level.

Tip 3 � Leeds to increase Charlton's misery.

If there was a club to rival the turmoil taking place at Bolton at the present, then it would be Charlton. Last week's home game against Brighton saw fans protest against the ownership of Roland Duchatelet by throwing beach balls and balloons onto the field, causing many delays to a game which once more ended in defeat for the relegated Addicks. It could be a rare occasion for Leeds as they be the more settled club going into their game against Charlton and Steve Evans will be confident of capitalising on the ill feeling in the opposing camp. Chris Wood and Stuart Dallas both netted last week and have been Leeds' biggest dangers going forward recently. Liam Cooper will want his defence to keep a rare clean sheet and he, as well as the other Leeds defenders, will be smart inclusions against a goal shy Charlton.

Tip 4 � Ipswich to see off the MK Dons.

Last week saw MK Dons' first season in the Championship end with a whimper. All season they have looked out of their depth and Karl Robinson has admitted that the money they had received from Delle Alli's sale should've been used more wisely. With little but pride to play for, I'm expecting them to get well beaten by Mick McCarthy's Ipswich. Portman Road is an unwelcoming place to visit for any side, let alone one who are suffering the pain of relegation. Although Ipswich's playoff charge ultimately fizzled out, the Suffolk side have still enjoyed a successful season on a tight budget. Last week's draw with promotion hunting Middlesbrough typified the resilience that has made Ipswich a top half team. The Tractor Boys give little away, so Tommy Smith and Jonas Knudsen are safe bets for a shutout. David McGoldrick would love a goal to mark his return from injury following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Tip 5 � Warnock's Rotherham to win again.

One of the biggest stories of the week saw Blackburn announce that Paul Lambert would be leaving at the end of the season. Lambert has been heavily linked with the soon-to-be vacant job at his former club Celtic following his disappointing spell at Ewood Park. His appointment promised much with his experience of getting underdogs promoted but after a promising start, Rovers failed to build any momentum. Alternatively, momentum has been very much with Rotherham. Since the appointment of Neil Warnock, the Millers have gone from nailed on certainties for the drop to a position of relative comfort meaning they can play with a sense of freedom in their last 2 games. Joe Mattock and Kirk Broadfoot have been integral in the turn up in form while Matt Derbyshire has found some crucial goals which have helped Rotherham to safety.
