Fixture: Caen vs Metz
League: Ligue 1
Venue: Stade Michel d’Ornano
Date: Saturday 17th December
Kick-off: 14:00 GMT
At the bottom of the Ligue 1 table Metz sits three points clear of the relegation playoff spot that is currently occupied by their opponent Caen. Both are in nearly identical poor form, but the hosts have an impressive victory over Nice under their belt and have had a slightly better defensive record over the past six gameweeks.
Caen’s attack has begun to open up in recent weeks in large part due to striker Ivan Santini and midfielder Julien Feret. Over their past three matches Santini has chipped in with two goals while Feret bagged one himself and also recorded two assists.
Meanwhile, Metz has allowed in nine goals over the same period. It’s not that the visitors can’t score themselves, but when on the road this season they’ve blanked in six of their nine matches.
In this crucial battle at the bottom of Ligue 1 it looks like Caen carries the advantage. Metz is poor on the road and while the hosts aren’t in flying form, they are more than capable of scoring a few goals.
With poor defenses, decent attacks and relegation implications all crammed into this game, we could be looking at a shootout that favours the home side.
