Manchester United vs Fulham
An important round of midweek fixtures gets underway at Old Trafford this Tuesday and with Manchester United now securing a top four finish, their sole focus will be on winning next Wednesday’s Europa League final.
Hoping to take advantage of such a relaxed manner are Fulham and with the Cottagers already relegated, Scott Parker’s men are now playing for nothing more than pride.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Fulham
Southampton vs Leeds
The Saints marched to a rather comfortable victory at the weekend and after getting the better of Fulham at St Mary’s, Southampton’s current league position looks a little less distressing. Now though, the aim is to try and finish as high up the table as possible.
A remit also attached to Leeds at present and with the Yorkshire outfit putting four past Burnley on Saturday, a top half Premier League finish is now all but secured for this season.
Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Leeds
Brighton vs Manchester City
Brighton were unfortunate not to earn all three points at home to West Ham on Saturday night and once again, it was a case of the Seagulls missing chances when it matters. Something they cannot afford to do in midweek.
That’s because they play host to Manchester City and even with the Etihad outfit back in champions mode, Pep Guardiola’s men still managed to put four goals past Newcastle last Friday night.
Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Manchester City
Chelsea vs Leicester
While although Chelsea suffered an F.A. Cup defeat at the weekend, Tuesday night offers the Blues the perfect platform for revenge and with Leicester extending their stay in London, it is now Champions League places up for grabs.
The Foxes will need to make sure there is no cup hangover and if they can avoid defeat in the capital, then a top four finish is still very much in their hands.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Leicester
Newcastle vs Sheffield United
Newcastle were certainly gallant in defeat last Friday night, as they were edged out by Manchester City in a seven-goal thriller and if manager Steve Bruce could bottle the attacking flair that was on display, it should bode well for Wednesday.
They play host to a Sheffield United side, who perhaps recorded an unlikely victory at Everton on Sunday and in doing so, their season is at least not ending with a whimper.
Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield United
Everton vs Wolves
That defeat for Everton may just have scuppered their bid for European football once and for all and although the race for sixth or seventh is not run just yet, Carlo Ancelotti’s men are now going to need favours from elsewhere.
This Wednesday sees them play host to Wolves and after a rather lacklustre performance at Tottenham on Sunday, you get the feeling that they really are on the beach now.
Prediction: Everton 1-0 Wolves
Tottenham vs Aston Villa
Results certainly went in Tottenham’s favour at the weekend and now Ryan Mason’s interim men have designs on qualifying for the Europa League, rather than the Europa Conference League. While to finish sixth, the North London outfit just need to win their remaining two league outings.
The first of those is up against Aston Villa on Wednesday and after losing to Crystal Palace on Sunday, their hopes of a top half finish have all but dissipated for this season.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Aston Villa
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal
An impressive win for Crystal Palace on Sunday, as they got the better of Aston Villa and although it was a highly entertaining affair, one wonders if it will be enough to see Roy Hodgson awarded a new contract over the summer.
While talking of the summer, Mikel Arteta will have to hope that he is still the Arsenal manager on the other side of it and to do so, he will need to finish this season as strong as possible.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal
Burnley vs Liverpool
Saturday saw a very un-Burnley performance at Turf Moor, as the Clarets shipped four goals to Leeds and although it was very much an afternoon to forget, the overall objective of Premier League survival is already in the bag.
This Wednesday sees them go up against Liverpool and with the Reds fresh off that incredible Sunday night drama, they are now hunting down the last available Champions League berth.
Prediction: Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
West Brom vs West Ham
An agonising defeat for West Brom on Sunday, although in the grand scheme of things it means truly little for Sam Allardyce’s men and as the Baggies limp towards the end of the season, all they can do is play the role of spoiler once more.
Next up is the visit of West Ham and with the Hammers dropping points at Brighton on Sunday, they now need to make sure they do not drop out of the top seven at the expense of Everton.
Prediction: West Brom 1-2 West Ham
