Newcastle vs Aston Villa
Another round of Premier League fixtures gets underway on Friday night, as Newcastle play host to Aston Villa and with the relegation trapdoor now looking a lot closer for the hosts, this encounter is nothing short of a must-win for the Magpies.
As for Aston Villa, it looks like their season is running out of a steam a little and for all those hopes of earning a place in Europe, they may have to make do with just a top-half finish instead.
Prediction: Newcastle 0-2 Aston Villa
Leeds vs Chelsea
If there is one thing that Leeds need to sort out it is their defence and although it is not an issue that will be rectified before the end of the campaign, it should certainly be on Marcelo Bielsa’s to do list over the course of the summer.
Next up though is the visit of Chelsea and with Thomas Tuchel yet to taste defeat while in England, it is not a record that he will want to see disappear by the end of Saturday lunchtime.
Prediction: Leeds 0-1 Chelsea
Crystal Palace vs West Brom
Crystal Palace were outclassed by Tottenham last Sunday and although they are not quite over the line in terms of Premier League safety, there is a feeling that their own finishing line is not all that far away.
Something that is in the distance for Saturday’s opponents West Brom and if they are to stay up this season, Sam Allardyce is going to need to produce some managerial magic against another former employer.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-0 West Brom
Everton vs Burnley
There was no doubt that Monday was important in terms of Everton’s hopes of a top-four finish. Hopes that may have diminished after defeat away at Chelsea and although they are not out of the race, Carlo Ancelotti’s men now certainly have some work to do.
Work that begins against Burnley and with the Clarets seemingly getting pulled into a relegation battle, Sean Dyche is going to have mastermind some distance between them and the bottom three.
Prediction: Everton 2-0 Burnley
Fulham vs Manchester City
Are Fulham getting the great escape underway? After their performance against Liverpool, it looks like they genuinely are and although a win on Merseyside is certainly to celebrated, the hard work now begins in earnest.
Hard work that sees champions elect Manchester City come to town and after their 5-2 win over Southampton on Wednesday, they have bounced back from Sunday’s derby day disappointment.
Prediction: Fulham 0-2 Manchester City
Southampton vs Brighton
Southampton were given a hiding in midweek and although there were more defensive dilemmas for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to deal with, he can take solace from the fact that Manchester City are handing out defeats to nearly everyone.
Now, it is about securing their top tier status, and this is exactly what Brighton are looking to do. The question is, are they losing any form and momentum at the worst possible time of the season?
Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Brighton
Leicester vs Sheffield United
After a slight wobble, it does seem that Leicester may be back on track and they will look to confirm such a status this Sunday. They play host to basement side Sheffield United and anything less than a win, may hamper their hopes of finishing in the top-four at the end of the season.
Something that the Blades can only dream of and although they have showed fleeting glimpses of fight as of late, the inevitability of relegation to the Championship is now just weeks away.
Prediction: Leicester 2-0 Sheffield United
Arsenal vs Tottenham
Is this Arsenal’s cup final? Not quite but at the same time, they have little to hang their hats on this season and after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture last December, they would love nothing more than a North London derby win this weekend.
Standing in their way, are a Tottenham side that have won their last three league outings and with Gareth Bale firing on all cylinders, Champions League football next season is not out of the equation.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Tottenham
Manchester United vs West Ham
Manchester United’s hopes of competing in next season’s Champions League took a huge boost last Sunday, as they got the better of their neighbours and runaway league leaders Manchester City. Now though, they must make sure they kick on and solidify a second-place finish at best.
While opponents West Ham also have designs on a top-four finish and after getting the better of Leeds last Monday night, the Hammers are certainly becoming a louder voice in the conversation.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 West Ham
Wolves vs Liverpool
Wolves’ inconsistencies mean that this season is all but petering out and with nothing really to play for, it may be hard for Nuno Espirito Santo to motivate his group of players between now and the final day of the campaign.
While opponents Liverpool may have found motivation in midweek after beating RB Leipzig and although top-four is not out of the question, winning the Champions League may make more sense.
Prediction: Wolves 0-2 Liverpool
