Crystal Palace vs Leicester
The second week of football festivity begins at Selhurst Park, as Crystal Palace play host to Leicester and with the Eagles shipping 10 goals in their last two league outings, manager Roy Hodgson may need to do some defensive soul searching.
They play host to a Leicester side, who picked up their first draw of the season on Boxing Day and after being held by Manchester United, they will look to return to winning ways on Monday.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Leicester
Chelsea vs Aston Villa
Will Frank Lampard be able to ask for some more toys in January? If he does, it will put an almighty amount of pressure on the Chelsea boss, as the expectations for him to deliver something at the end of the season, would only increase further.
After losing to Arsenal, the Blues now look forward to the visit of Aston Villa and with Dean Smith’s men making such light work of Crystal Palace, they will look for further joy against London opposition.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Aston Villa
Everton vs Manchester City
Everton are certainly on the up as of late and with them ending the Boxing Day gameweek lying second, they will now look to solidify that standing before the turn of the year. Then again, with Manchester City lying in wait, that is easier said than done.
City have not possessed the same swagger as before, but they are certainly winning football matches and if Pep Guardiola can oversee this continued momentum, they will move further up the table.
Prediction: Everton 1-1 Manchester City
West Brom vs Leeds
After a meek showing at home to Aston Villa, the Allardyce effect is now in full swing and after picking up a late point at defending champions Liverpool, the former England manager will now look to use that performance as a springboard for further rewards.
This week, they play host to a Leeds side. that got the better of Burnley on Sunday and in doing so, just extended the gap between themselves and the relegation battle that is shaping up below them.
Prediction: West Brom 1-2 Leeds
Southampton vs West Ham
Southampton have gone slightly off the boil as of late, as the St Mary’s outfit have failed to win any of their last three league outings and because of this, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have just lost ground in the quickening race for European places.
They will look to get back on track, when they play host to West Ham and with the Londoners having to make do with a draw against Brighton, a win will now be on the agenda for David Moyes.
Prediction: Southampton 1-1 West Ham
Burnley vs Sheffield United
The Clarets failed to get anything for their Elland Road efforts on Sunday, as they lost 1-0 to Leeds and were it not for some rather suspect officiating, Sean Dyche’s men would have been good value for at least a well-deserved point.
With that said, they will look to secure all three in their next outing, as they play host to a hapless Sheffield United and with no win in their last 18 league matches, things are worsening by the week.
Prediction: Burnley 1-0 Sheffield United
Brighton vs Arsenal
The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last three league outings and although that is reason to be cheerful for manager Graham Potter, a lack of cutting edge has failed to turn the trio of recent draws into a much-needed win.
While when it comes to the subject of much-needed wins, that is exactly what Arsenal managed on Boxing Day, as they got the better of Chelsea and now, they will look to kick on up the table.
Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Arsenal
Manchester United vs Wolves
After being held to a Boxing Day draw at Leicester, it is now eight league games unbeaten for the Red Devils and although the run is getting more impressive, the task is now to bridge the gap to league leaders Liverpool.
A task that will require them to get the better of a Wolves side, who were rewarded for their endeavour on Sunday, as they managed to earn a late equaliser against a visiting Tottenham side.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Wolves
Tottenham vs Fulham
No win in four now for Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham and after sitting pretty at the top of the table, that seems like nothing more than a distant memory. A statement that could also be used, when referencing their previous swashbuckling routine in attack.
Something that will hopefully be on show for them, when they play host to Fulham and with the Cottagers now unbeaten in their last four, will manager Scott Parker be able to pull off a big shock?
Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Fulham
Newcastle vs Liverpool
The boom-and-bust cycle of Newcastle is once again in full swing and with no win in their last three league outings, the pressure is starting to reappear on the shoulders of Steve Bruce. Pressure, that may only increase by the end of Wednesday evening.
That’s because, Liverpool come to town and after the league leaders were held by West Brom on Sunday, they will look to bounce back in the best possible way and pick up an emphatic win.
Prediction: Newcastle 0-3 Liverpool
