FPLHolly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 20. We’re halfway through the season, and it’s Christmas, so managers are full of hope and optimism. Even her Clueless Husband has some enthusiasm for the Gameweek ahead.
TOP 5 #FPL CAPTAINS
Kane – 17 😍
Lukaku – 2 😠
Salah – 10 😃
De Bruyne – 3 😤
Sterling – 13 😛 pic.twitter.com/UtS0qrLxOK

It was a mixed week in captaincy selections for Gameweek 19. We neglected Kane in the options, but he’s firmly back in this week. Those who went with Shield Pick or Park the Bus Pick were rewarded. Again, we need to select carefully a playing captain and vice captain, as back ups might be needed and minutes can’t be assured.
Shield Pick: Harry Kane vs Southampton (H)
Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/6
Harry Kane equals Alan Shearer’s 22-year-old Premier League record of 36 goals in a calendar year 🙌 pic.twitter.com/uxCWyJAd2V

You might as well not read the rest of the article, as Harry Kane has to have the armband this time out. He’s matched Shearer’s record against Burnley, with that hat trick, and you can bet that he is planning to move clear with the record during this game. He will be doing everything in his power to get the goal, and his team mates will be trying to put it on a plate for him. The minutes are guaranteed with this record to chase, plus Spurs don’t have a game next week, so rest shouldn’t be an issue. If you stuck with Kane, despite the looming blank, he deserves the armband this week. Guaranteed starter. Guaranteed Scorer.
Sword Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Swansea (H)
Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13
— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) December 22, 2017
If you don’t own Kane, then Salah is your next best selection for captain. His starting berth is less secure, but Liverpool have had a longer rest than many ahead of this one and even if he doesn’t start, he can get returns from the bench. Klopp is likely to rotate, especially with an easy match up against bottom of the league and managerless Swansea. Salah is having an incredible season and is well worthy of the armband this Christmas.
Form Pick: Raheem Sterling vs Newcastle (A)
Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 17/20
— Premier League (@premierleague) December 24, 2017
Sterling is having his best season ever, and is providing great value for money in midfield. His form is incredible, with scores of 9, 12 and 13 in his last three games. Rotation is always an issue, in a simple away fixture, but he hasn’t been benched since Gameweek 10 and has been rested recently in the League Cup. He can be very effective in games late on, so a sub appearance might not be the end of the world. Are you going with the form pick?
Fixture Pick: Philippe Coutinho vs Swansea (H)
Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6
There’s an argument that Coutinho has now made himself an #FPL essential:
▪️8th highest scoring mid with 88 points despite missing 7GWs! 📈
▫️7.3PPG (nearing 7.6 Salah territory)
▪️Arguably no more prone to rotation than MCI mids. ♻️
▫️Next 2: SWA (H) & LEI (H) 🔥 pic.twitter.com/X6JwWgYF9A

Another of the Fab Four features, since this is the most enticing fixture in the schedule. Swansea are really going to struggle at Anfield against this exciting Liverpool side, and Coutinho looks likely to return for them. Klopp hasn’t had to rotate as much, with no EFL involvement late on, and needs to keep the momentum going of his side after some disappointing draws. Coutinho now has 2 goals and an assist in his last two games. Do you think he can improve that record this week?
Park the Bus and Punt Pick: Hugo Lloris vs Southampton (H)
Clean Sheet Odds: 4/5
— Hotspur Related (@HotspurRelated) December 22, 2017
Hugo has his birthday on Boxing Day and keepers tend not to get rotated as much as defenders. A clean sheet looks likely against a Saints team who struggle for goals and are likely to be without Charlie Austin to a hamstring injury. Spurs have managed 2 clean sheets in their last 3 games and Lloris could step up with save points and bonus points. Will you take the punt?
Clueless Husband Pick: Gabriel Jesus vs Newcastle (A)
Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13
Gabriel Jesus hasn’t lost any of the 26 Premier League games that he’s played in since joining Manchester City – only four players have ever had a longer unbeaten start to a Premier League career (Jens Lehmann 47, Arjen Robben 37, Didier Drogba 37 and Gael Clichy 29). pic.twitter.com/mvNs8NaPzt

I’ve had a few good weeks in Fantasy Premier League, but so has my Husband and he remains 40 points ahead at 250k in rank. He’s excited for Christmas, and has been looking forward to this festive themed pick for weeks! How can you not captain Jesus in the Christmas game, while he’s “Away in a Manger”?! He was rested last time out, so is due a start and due some returns. Surely Pep will support the Christmas gamble?
Until Next Week…
Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
